Darn, I was attempting to put this note into the 2016 Roulot BB thread, didn’t do it right.

I have one more Roulot Bouchéres from a different vintage. I need to try that one soon to figure out what’s happening.

Which 1996 Champagnes have let you down? I've been happy with Krug (regular bottling, the Ambonnay and Mesnil are above my pay grade), Salon, and Philipponnat Clos des Goisses consumed this year. The ‘96 Salon tasted like lemon water, something wrong with it. Bollinger GA weak,‘96 Krug shockingly d...

Well, along with WOTY, we need our annual Top 10 List, as hinted by David G. Rules: must have been consumed in 2019, a decent pour, not just a thimble full at a trade tasting. Candidates are your most memorable wines, not necessarily the ones you scored the highest. My list, sadly, numerous trophy w...

I sold almost all of my red Burgundy, none of it is that good. Even a DRC RSV was blah, Roumiers and Mugniers I bought on release mostly thin and bitter. Glad to hear it performed so well. Roulot has become one of those superstar, super-rare, super-expensive producers. Does this mean producer is more important than terroir in Burgundy? Great tasting and excellent notes as usual, Ian. You had a better experience with Mouton than I have had. My 1970 Moutons have all been fair to awful, even when much younger when they were better. The 1982 by contrast, has been excellent to magnificent, 1985 just okay but not inspiring, ‘89/‘90 medi...

Important tasting, great notes, so evocative in a few words.

I went light on ‘86s due to my trepidation about the vintage character, sounds like I made the right decision. I need to try out that Lynch-Bages, though.

Re: So when should I drink my lone bottle of 2008 Cristal?

Great advice above.

Drink one a year for the next 24 years, so you need to buy a couple of cases now.

Two of the nice things about champagne is that a) it doesn’t begin to oxidize for like half way to forever and b) it doesn’t go through any dumb or moody stage.

It appears 2008 is indeed really good. And some are drinking really well already. The PR Winston is very good but at least at this point doesn’t have the wow factor of older mature Winston vintages. Can’t tell if it will get richer and deeper. It’s nice too see a wine category such as champagne that...

Funny you guys should mention I bought 2 x 6 packs of 2008 Cristal a couple of weeks ago. I paid £950 per 6, but my hope is that, in time, I can sell one to finance the consumption of the other case. The 1996 is over £500 a bottle, and the 2008 vintage is definitely as good as the 1996 according to...

The 14s are so, so good. Tense and full of flavor. Incredibly hard to source though, not only now but on release. I’m having good luck so far with my 2010s. But 2014 is one of my favorite vintages since all the way back to 1978. No problems with the 14s so far but I’m not too optimistic for the long term so I’ll drink them young, like you all. Maybe hold back a tiny percentage just in case they survive.
