Re: What are we drinking in the Omicron ominous?

Tonight with lamb shanks, a 1986 Ch Beychevelle. Paired very well. Very soft without much gas left in the tank. This may hold on for a few more years but no reason to sit on.

Re: Compare your 2019 Bordeaux futures purchases to 2018 and 2020

2018- 0 2019- 0 2020- 4 (Ch Ormes de Pez) I topped out with my 2014-2016 run. Any 18' to 20' I'll just grab after release. Frankly, with only few exceptions, the price spread between futures and retail at release just isn't worth it. I paid $160 on futures for 2016 Pichon Lalande but just grabbed mo...

Re: The market, inflation and some ridiculous wine prices

Pre-Covid I would agree with David as for auction yield vs CT valuation. A friend of mine placed a group of about 500 bottles at auction about 6 months ago and netted about 10% over after fees. For more recent vintages the CT minus 20% still holds true but for older years pre-2000 the pricing has es...

A Quiet New Year's Eve Dinner

Happy New Year to all! We usually just stay in on NYE and have a quiet dinner including our youngest daughter. It was a little bit of a farewell dinner for her since she leaves Sunday for her final clinical at the VA hospital in Augusta, ME for 4 months. Before dinner we started with a simple NV Tat...

Now I really feel fortunate and glad I picked up 4 bottles in NH while commiting larceny at $89/btl and partially paying using gift cards from a previous promo. Only wish now I had followed my 1st instinct and emptied the shelf.

I just cracked my last of 4 bottles of 2006 Ch Duhart Milon. I've never been excited about this bottle. While the tannins have softened it's still pretty thin without much mouthfeel to it. I can't see this getting much better and is topping out at 89-90 wine, my best rating yet.

1st of 4 bottles of 2006 Ch Lynch Bages. What a weird experience. After opening and decanting for an hour it opened up nicely with a nose of tapenade and tar. Dark fruited with moderate tannins and all in balance. I would give it 92 pts. Sadly, at the two hour mark it flipped. It became astringent w...

I have been screaming from Day One that 2014 is an excellent to outstanding vintage. In hindsight, the best advice I ever got was build it to accomodate double what you think you'll ever need. I failed to listen and now Im in trouble, lol. I built it to fit 1000 and now at 1100 and slowly climbing.

I similarly have very fond memories of 1990, 1989 and 1986, getting into Bordeaux out of law school around the same time as you developing your passion. I have not tried a Lynch more recent than a 2005, but will concur, tough to compare to those amazing, classic vintages on which we cut our teeth. ...
