Re: 1999 the Cinderella vintage shows well

Btw another fabulous 1999 is Ducru Beaucaillou. It is a shame we did not have any Pauillacs or St Estephes on Tuesday. The person who was going to bring Cos D'Estournel dropped out. Had this recently with Bill Partmann, another BWE blast from the past guy. It was great. It was pretty well regarded ...

I'm not sure I've had a Cotes du Bourg other than this one. I was surprised the other day to see an email offer on another wine from this AOC (that I didn't recognize) that was $11, which feels like a price from decades ago. I didn't nibble.

Re: Le demoiselle de sociando-mallet 2010

That's a weird wine to find at a TJ's. I know people out here say that they are good for wines, but I've never been impressed. They do carry some spirits/cordials which are a touch harder to find (Lilllet, Campari etc.) But that was before I moved out to the suburbs where even the better supermarket...

Re: 1999 the Cinderella vintage shows well

Margaux was definitely good that year, it was also the first year in quite some time where they stuck out. Later on there would be a string of good years, but I remember thinking at the time that was a place to buy a few. There was a promotion from some place where if you bought 5 solid cases on fut...

00 Roc de Cambes [Cotes du Bourg] Served cool. Bought at release. I remember having this when it was young, in a panel which included a range of classified Bordeaux, and it stuck out then. If I recall correctly, it was the groups 2nd favorite wine that night, and was a popular rich flavorful wine. ...

I might get a bottle or two of the 09, as I think there is some at a place that I can stop at on the way home from a road trip. For all the hysteria about Bordeaux pricing, when wines like this are available at such price points, and offer immediate satisfaction, while having some cellaring potentia...

2010 Chantegrive Rouge [Graves] Drunk on the cold side of 60F, in proper stems, over the course of 4 days. This is yummy stuff. Those prices seem very reasonable for the quality and range of vintages offered. Did you wear that jacket the last time we saw you? I seem to remember it. I'm sure in a good vintage they'll make a B grade effort. That is pretty good in objective reality, to me.

I generally only drink whites when by the glass is what's on offer. Most commercial oriented whites are hard to screw up. (The kind that would be served at an open bar event etc.)

Interesting Arv. I agree I think they try to deal as best they can with what Mother Nature delivers. Re: 2003 Leoville Barton uncorked

The difference between 03 and other years (to me) is based on what mother nature dealt, rather than interventionist practices. I think its fine to have those differences in the cellar, and its creates some diversity among drinking windows. IIRC 1976 was also a hot year, and the wines supposedly were...

I like these German wines, but they have gotten more costly, and unfortunately no one else in the family/clan cares for them. At least if they are opened and stay in the fridge, they will keep well. My cellar in Vermont had to be heated to get to 50F. Now that I'm on the other end of the country, I use a facility, where I'm 3 stories underground. Not as cold as VT, but uncomfortably chilly, enough so that one needs to remember to take a sweater when visiting. In the central valley, people go ar...

I seem to remember the 95 and 98 being ok too, true to type.

The 96 was a poorly thought out acquisition.

I didn't understand at that time how much difference it made in the vintage quality from one side of the river to the other.

I am reluctant to buy older wines now, for a range of reasons, but did pick up an 03 Greysac today. I figure in a super hot year, and given their location, it ought to be ok.

Don't think I've tripped over their wines since the 1995, 1996 when they had some some serviceable, smooth offerings.

Weirdly enough I might have one of these left. I probably drank most of my Rhones from those glory days of 98-01 too soon. It was a happy time of a strong dollar, good vintages, and a region that was not yet fully bid up.

It's more of a delicate, finesse styled wine.

They are oenophile oriented wines, that should be enjoyed without comparison to louder St Emilions.

I used to work with a guy who always swore by this estate.
