Re: Nice weekend wines, including 2016 Grave à Pomerol
Nice. I saw a blurb in a recent WS tasting note for some recent vintage of La Grave a Pomerol, that only *50* cases were brought over for the US market. I rarely ever see current releases, and remember with fondness the era a generation ago when it could be found on the shelf in Manhattan retailers...

Re: GPL is [no longer] my largest BDX holding!
Have you long been a Haut Bailly fan, DG? It seemed like an under the radar chateau until kinda recently, despite making consistently great wines since the 60’s or longer. The 79 is one of those largely unheralded gems. Bruce Bassin turned me on to Haut Bailly shortly before he died in 1998. I boug...

UPDATE: "a return to sanity", GPL is no longer my largest BDX holding. After an extensive cellar rationalization over the last couple of years (mostly achieved by selling off certain 'frauds' and fruit bombs), here are my current Bordeaux holdings (all chateau with at least 10 bottles): M...

For those relying on me for this summer abstinence thing, rely no longer. I am doomed. Doomed not just with bottles, but bloody magnums. My sins began before breakfast, and continued post first coffee, and ended as I munched on my morning crumpet. It was horrible!!!! The first inkling was an offer ...

Funny...my ex and I stopped at Anderson Conn Valley to do a tasting back when I drank California cab...I left with their pinot...I'm sure my palate will not be a huge fan anymore, but I bought it out of curiosity. Will serve it with a few others who I'm sure will enjoy.

1978 Trotanoy...pristine cond.😊 In my next international trips, i will look for more 1978. In London, i brought a 1978 Canon la Gaffelière at the Saturday dinner, and of course passed a bit ignored in comparison to the highligths wines, but that 1978 was excellent. Nice brother Nic!...My goal is to...

Re: What will happen to Bordeaux if the banks go under?
I was struck by that previous post from AKR on Haut Brion, how they didn't start making a profit until 1996, and even then only because of RMP. It's hard to make a profit out there with tight credit and a high cost of living. I'm seeing too many folks, Mr. Flaneur included, predicting wild things i...

The only 2 Mouton I've tasted in the last year has been the '87 and the '91 ....both lovely wines, same as your '93 HB Joel, these are softer, subtler classic expressions, less imposing, but still darlings. It's too loved to truly be an off vintage, but Lisa and I had a 2002 La Mission Haut Brion last night with our Easter lamb.
