Re: What is your Lynch/Angelus/La Lagune/Pavie Maquin?

Three decades ago, I started with intense tasting of red Bordeaux. Relatively fast, Grand-Puy-Lacoste became a favourite, as well as La Lagune and Pichon-Comtessse. At that time, it was not easy to find an excellent left bank wine outside of the 1855 classification, except of Sociando-Mallet of cour...

Re: TN: 2007 Moulin Saint-Georges

A useful vintage maybe, but nothing special. In my view, 2007 is the weakest vintage of the past decade. I attended several horizontal tastings and even wines like D'Issan, Haut-Bergey or La Fleur de Boüard were not up to their usual standard.

Re: TN: 2007 Moulin Saint-Georges

For me, the 2002 was the best Moulin Saint-Georges I had in recent years. An impressive, opulent, classically styled, black-colored wine with low acidity and gorgeous minerals, black fruits, and a long finish. Admirable.

TN: 2007 Moulin Saint-Georges

Moulin Saint-Georges is often one of my favourites from Saint-Emilion, but not so the 2007. Nothing really memorable, but still a competently made wine with a round mouth feel, well integrated tannins, berry flavours with some spices, and an acceptable finish...

Re: TN: 1998 Larrivet Haut Brion

...I liked the 2000 Larrivet Haut Brion, I was actually thinking of buying a case of the 2009 en futuro from PJs for $29.97 per bottle, the notes above give me some pause. I too like the 2000. Both the 2000 and the 2001 are outstanding wines, and reasonably priced. I’m a fan of Larrivet-Haut-Brion....

Thanks for the interesting note, Alex! I had a 2003 Bellegrave a few months ago, and I must say it was delicious. I rated it 88+ points. Certainly a wine worth seeking out...

Thanks for the information, Alex. Indeed, often an early maturing, sexy wine. I like this somewhat underrated Grand Cru Classé too...

And I thought this forum would be a nice place for real Bordeaux enthusiasts... but it seems to be a nice kindergarten for Parker/Squires dispraisers and haters....

Re: Chateau Lafite Rothschild - 1999 Bust

Indeed, there are superb Mosel Rieslings from the steep slate hillsides in Graach, Wehlen, Zeltingen, Bernkastel, etc... I’m a Bordeauxphile, but when it comes to German white wines, I prefer dry Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, and Auxerrois... but too occasionally off-dry Rieslings that usually have...

Re: Anybody know about these wines?

For more than three decades we have both Bouscaut and Olivier in our local Supermarket, but mostly I was underwhelmed in earlier days. However, since 2000, I had excellent bottles from both estates. Especially 2001 and 2005 Bouscaut, and 2000 and 2005 Olivier...

Re: Chateau Lafite Rothschild - 1999 Bust

South Africa, why not, Steve... :P Of course, Saarland is located in the southwestern portion of Germany and is bounded by France, Luxembourg and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Although the Saar River flows through our beautiful land, we don’t have Saar vineyards here, but Mosel vineyards along ...

Re: Chateau Lafite Rothschild - 1999 Bust

Steve, I'm envious ;) ...but my impression is that the left bank is very successful too. I had a lot of excellent, elegant wines especially from Margaux and the southern Médoc in recent years…D’Agassac, D’Issan, Palmer, Sociando Mallet, Charmail, Clément-Pichon, Clos du Jaugueron, etc…and even Marqu...

Re: Is Mark Squires being forthcoming?

Hi stefan. I live in Losheim am See around 10 or 12 kilometres away from the first exquisite steep hillsides of the Saar in Serrig. I grew up here and had my first sip of wine, a sweet Riesling, in 1961, but I never became a Riesling fan. I prefer Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, and Auxerrois. And of ...

Re: Chateau Lafite Rothschild - 1999 Bust

Alain – I agree. We had 1999 Lafite along with 2001 Roc de Cambes a few months ago. Roc de Cambes was better than Lafite, but Lafite indeed was an interesting, multilayered wine with excellent concentration. I, too, think it needs more time...
