Re: Pre-Pre BWE Dinner in Paris with Tim

Great warm-up with Dani and Joel! I decided at the last minute to bring the 55 Pape Clement as the fill was low and I didn't want to risk traveling with it. The wine was really excellent despite the low shoulder fill. The nose was stunning, powerful, structured. It fell a little flat on the palate, ...

This is difficult... Removing any first growths or equivalent 1. Pontet Canet (no surprise there) 2. Lynch Bages 3. Branaire Ducru 4. La Conseillante 5. VCC 6. Leoville Las Cases 7. Sociando Mallet 8. Haut Maco 9. Suduiraut 10. Montrose or Cos d'Estournel (tie) I guess the last one is cheating but t...

Re: Poll: Is Latour Overrated?

I'm with Ed on the ordering.

And I've had many spectacular Latour. The only reason that Haut-Brion beats it is that it is more consistent in off years.

Then again, I have had many fewer Lafites. Perhaps if more showed up at BWE events, I'd have a better feeling for it :)

Otherwise, we can look for a different venue for Friday.

Cheers,

My two favorite regions for approachable young Burgundy are Savigny Les Beaune and Ladoix. Both have had excellent QPR in my experience, across multiple domains. But my heart is in Volnay and Pommard. Most of the Volnay and Pommard 1er Crus are fantastic. On the Volnay side, Taillepieds, Santenots a...

While it is a crazy way to decide a tie, on the other hand it really does demonstrate the strength of the entire team versus just two players. Yes, it is dependent on the goalkeeper and some luck, but it is also a testament to the skill of the five that take the shots.

I agree that, in general, the system goes way too far in sentencing for non-violent crimes. Her lack of empathy for her victims ...

Creme de tete

Question for the endless depth of knowledge on this forum: Is there a technical requirement for a Sauternes to be considered a Creme de Tete? Or is it just something like a reserve that a Chateau can designate for a particular bottling? Why is it that only a few properties create a Creme de Tete? Th...
