If they are smart, she'll do a quick appeal and they'll settle for $3.5m out of court, most of which will go to the lawyers.

Re: 2019, Calon Segur, Johnny Depp trial....

The British trial was a joke. Depp won because there was overwhelming evidence that she was lying, and virtually none that supported her accusations. And it was also clear from the evidence that she was using the accusations to further both her career and her divorce settlement. He deserved to win t...

Re: 2019, Calon Segur, Johnny Depp trial....

I think Amber Heard is a total liar, the evidence contradicts everything she says. I hope Depp wins big on this one. She is pretty evil.

Though I have to give her credit for liking Vega Sicilia Unico. She has good taste in Spanish wine.

Re: Book Review: Grand Vins (Clive Coates, 1995)

This is my go-to book for older vintages. Ignoring the ratings, just the conditions on the ground and the top chateaux gives a good view into what is likely better-than-average and what is subpar.

Re: Lafite Rothschild - 13 Vintages tonight

Lafite is the first growth estate that I have had the least of (and unfortunately the worst of, as the 68 and the 70 were pretty awful). I hope to have an amazing bottle someday. Time to crack open one of the 2002s?

Re: BWE West Coast gathering - new date - Saturday, May 14th

What a great evening, thank you Peter for hosting! I thought that this was truly a BWE evening, lots of different Bordeaux, a variety of vintages, some older, some surprises, without focusing on first growths or even super seconds. My WOTN was likely the 1983 Yquem also, but close follow ups were th...

Test taken negative here as well. If no one is opposed, I do have some Foie Gras Entier here that I can bring along. Is that overkill?

Would love to get everyone back together again in France!

I think Haut Brion embodies the spirit of BWE more than any of the first growths. Fantastic to see such a lineup!

Timmy, my friend. Everything in your last post would be thrown out, vomited out, in a court of law. Give me names. Give me dates. If a wine is "faked," who faked it? My $40 per hour private investigator easily investigates provenance... who sold to whom.. who sold to whom. Give me some ba...

Re: Maureen in the news

I've been to Maureen's wine fraud training. I've discovered more than one bottle of DRC in my cellar that was fake. It wasn't evident that it was fake until you put it under a microscope. If you know what to look for, the fakes become obvious. I've gone to auctions and discovered fake bottles when I...

I rarely have red bordeaux with fish. The only exception is when the fish is prepared with tomatoes or something that might match with a red wine. Note, though, I detest the taste of Salmon so I have little reason to pair it with anything. Tonight I had a nice Cod with a California Chardonnay. It w...

Re: BWE SF Dinner Notes & Pix (Nov 13, 2021)

Was great to see everyone again. Agreed that the company was better than the wines, but I did think there were a few standouts on the fermented grape juice. In particular, the 2001 Magnum of GPL was in a great place. Great to see everyone, I hope we can do this more regularly!

I just came across this article on Jean-Michel Comme and didn't see it posted in other threads, so thought I would share. It is a very interesting look at his history with biodynamic wines and hints at his leaving the property. And in particular the impact of the 2018 vintage. https://amustreadblog....
