Re: Deals Thread

@ K&L last night-2014 Domaine de Chavalier-Pessac $49.95 Just an update on K&L's new shipping procedure to "affected" states-I had about 3 cases that fell into the new procedure about a month ago. They use some freight forwarder that gets the wine from K&L, ships to a central l...

TN: '98 Larmande

I've had (3) '98 Larmande's stored for many. many years. You may be wondering "why"? :) Well, here's why.... Sometime around 2001, a few years into getting into wine, and realizing we both liked wines from St. Emilion...Lisa and I walked into Smith and Wollensky in Las Vegas one evening fo...

Re: TN: 2000 Barde Haut

I can't help, but I have (1) '98 Barde Haut left, haven't opened one in many years, I probably should soon.

That said, I had been holding onto a few '98 Larmandes, and opened one this week-it was way down the hill, which was disappointing. I plan to post a separate thread in a bit.

Re: A thread on WB perhaps worth clicking into

I've been following along, it's been a great read. I've not had much experience with 70's and 80's Bordeaux, but it is good to see the differing points of view, and I am interested how the latter vintages of Bordeaux are going to evolve, because they are different. I've got a lot of respect for Alfe...

Re: Noel a Londres

1985 Cheval Blanc-it has been many years since I have had this wine-at least 10 years ago, but it was a very, very classy wine. Not big, not burly ever, but smooth as satin, and aromas to fill the room. Looking forward to reading how it has come along....

Re: TN: 2014 Lilian Ladouys

Legitimate wine-yes! Thin and watery? I can certainly see how "thin" could be a descriptor. The color is rich and dark, the palate does not get there. Watery? Not to me. Pure St. Estephe character-no. More modern than you generally find in St. Estephe. Not complex, not a wine to make you s...

TN: 2014 Lilian Ladouys

I was able to pick up a bottle of this today locally, thought I would give it a shot.... Pretty shy, reticent nose, but some crisp red fruits, and coffee scents are poking through. Nice richness on the palate, red fruits, tobacco, and some acidity and tannin clipping off the finish. A bit of St. Est...

Thanks Danny, I appreciate the comments. I'll add some Lilian to the stable....I don't have any 2012's either, but it looks like I'm going to have a lot of 2014/15/16. I'm going to need so cellar defenders :)

Just checked Winsearcher-K&L has the 2014 in stock for $19.99. :o

Re: 2014 Meyney: A beauty!

Looking forward to the note on '14 Lilian Ladouys-I have been eyeing this to purchase. I had the '12 Lilian Ladouys recently (Del Friscos NYC had it by the glass at a "reasonable" price-especially considering they also had Cheval Blanc, Screaming Eagle, DRC by the glass also :)). The '12 h...

Re: 2014 Meyney: A beauty!

Thanks again Jim. Seems like we're finding a lot of winners in the North/Left in 2014. I concur with your "big without rough edges" comment. That seems consistent across many 2014's I've tasted as well. I need to order some Meyney.

RE: 2014 Leoville Barton-came home from a dinner Saturday night and have had this standing up. Popped and poured 2 glasses for my wife and I-it was angry, musty and tough to assess-"very french" as my wife said :). Very musty nose, but I could tell there was some really nice fruit and text...

Re: Getting to about that time for BWE Wine of the Year....

Maybe this has been discussed in the past, but how about having (2) WOTY's each year-one being the WOTY-Current release, and the other WOTY-most memorable from a BWE event, or otherwise that many folks had a wonderful experience with? MIne (after having the 2014 Leoville Barton this weekend): Curren...

Re: Question re JJ Buckley Wine Co.

Many, many years ago I used to buy and sell occasionally through WineCommune. JJ Buckley somehow became part of this and sold wines as a retailer of sorts. I have talked to them a few times, and bought wines over the years, but it has been awhile since my last purchase (2-3 years)? Never a negative ...

Re: Getting to about that time for BWE Wine of the Year....

Based on the 2014's that I have been lucky enough to taste so far, my vote would go to the open for business, flamboyant Pontet Canet....but I do have the '14 Calon Segur downstairs. I guess I need to open one in the name of science, and WOTY honors....thanks for being enablers :).

Couple things-thanks for the impressions on the '14 Calon Segur-I haven't tried it yet, but have 6 on the slow train from K&L-hope to see them in the next week or 2. Hilton Midtown-I'll be there this week-my first trip to NYC. I've been a lot of places, but never NYC. I'll be locked up in a conf...

K&L, and shipping...I have 4 cases of Bordeaux purchased from them over the last few months that I have asked them to ship to me here in Colorado. They have been shipping to me for years. FedEx, UPS etc. are no longer options for them, so they are using another, unproven route. They are hopeful ...

OK-time to get back to Bordeaux-glad you guys are still going as strong as ever. I haven't participated in many years as "life" happened. Many years of kids sports, school, relocations, I could go on, and on. My Bordeaux collecting days had a gap due to some outrageously expensive vintages...
