Re: TN 2001 Cantemerle

Yes, Cantemerle is really what Bordeaux SHOULD be. Consistently excellent for at least couple decades now. Has anyone tried the 2014 yet?

Re: The case of 2004 Smith Haut Lafitte has been uncorked.

A very nice effort Bobby G. Nice finish. Very representative of the 2004 vintage. Cool, crisp, slightly unripe tannins. still youthful but doubtful that it will improve significantly. very nice, lengthy finish. On the classic side of the spectrum. The color is deep and rich. Very nice, certainly not...

The case of 2004 Smith Haut Lafitte has been cracked open.

Well, I finally broke down, and cracked open my case.
I'm heading off to Paris this week and I was thinking about that magical visit we had at SHL with the Cathiards, now two springs ago. (Crazy.)
This wine is indeed a beauty, Bobby G, will report back.

I was just gonna say, Nicola, sdr is a tough grader.
I mean, if LMHB from all those great vintages only scores in the high 80s-low 90s, then Bordeaux must be overrated!

We uncorked a 2014 Calon Segur in SF.
It was big.
A very serious wine, worth the $67 price I paid on sale in CT.
VERY different from the equally-delicious, lighter on its feet styled 2011.

GPL is clearly the "New Lynch Bages, which is the New Lafite" of Pauillac, that eminently masculine of appellations!

I'm really into the AlexR mindset that, generally speaking, the optimal time to drink quality Bordeaux is at the 15-20 year mark.
Thus, at the age of 58, I'm in for another five years or so.

Re: 2016 Bordeaux futures - anyone biting?

2016 is the birth year of my daughter, so I do have some emotional attachment to the vintage as well as this particular wine (as a baby, she loves anything heart-shaped and finds the shape oddly fascinating), which obviously influences my purchasing decisions.... When she turns 21, I really do hope...

Yes, I'm going to hold off on buying 2016s en futuro and just wait until they come out. I'm going to fill in some of the spaces on my wine racks with 2014s. I received delivery of a dozen 2014s that included a number of estates I haven't been buying much of in recent years, including Haut Bailly, Pa...

I just turn him off.
I have literally heard about 30 words of his voice since he was elected, and that was only because I didn't turn off the TV, radio, or computer quickly enough.
It's pretty easy to do, and I feel fine.
I read about his antics, but the audio/visual is minimal.

Agreed, Ian, but that still does not mean I would kick the lovely Lady Langoa out of bed for eating crackers. Of course "Leoville [Barton] is much more complex." But I've consumed an "un-complex" Lady Langoa or two over the years from which I have derived much pleasure. Thus, the...

I'm pleased to hear that about 2014, RP, I've bought a number of my favorite estates and will probably buy more at the prices I'm seeing. The only 2014 I've tried so far has been Calon Segur and I liked it. Bigger and different in style from the excellent 2011, but I liked it.

Tuna steak. Too much trouble.

Cos, 155
d'Armhaillac, 42
Tertre, 39
Lagune, 47
Labegorce, 30 (especially interesting)
Prieure, 42
