Re: Bordeaux 2022

I have not tasted a single 2022 from Bdx yet I have absolutely zero interest in the vintage and I find myself deleting every futures email I have gotten thus far and most unread. Ratings, who cares, pricing, who cares, zero interest I say. Solar vintages rarely do it for me the way classically style...

Re: Another Bordeaux dinner

How do people obtain Ygrec? Is it for chateau visitors, or some other process (reward for distributors etc.)? I remember a lifetime ago that Mike Jessen - president of Zachys auctions - told me he only tripped over it when inspecting collections. And of course, very thoughtful comments on the wines...

Re: The Wine Buying Gods are Cruel and Capricious

Liked all of the additions but perhaps the last pic best with the Francois Cotat Sancerre Rose as that is a top notch Rose for me (as well as for Jay Miller) and generally demands bottle age to begin unfurling its complexities. Had a btl of the 2018 in a Rose tasting I assembled for my 3rd Tuesday g...

Re: TN: Saint Pierre 2012

Nice note on an estate that I’ve generally found a little too modern leaning for my palate when coming across it at the UGC. The only vintage of Saint Pierre that I own is the 2016 but have yet to broach the case and also own the 2016 Branaire Ducru in multicase quantity as that is my general go to ...

A 2nd wine beats a 1st, say it ain’t so.

And I’ve generally been underwhelmed with Lagrange but the 2019 and 2020 did buck that trend when I tasted both at the UGC so I would say without any on the ground knowledge that good things are transpiring over there.

Re: The 2010 Fleur Cardinale has been uncorked, and other ramblings....

I bought several cases of the 2010 Fleur Cardinale on release at Total Wine in Norwalk, CT for $36-$38/per btl and while I initially liked it in its youth, I didn’t like the direction it was evolving in and eventually flipped the full cases but do have a bottle or 2 that I saved in the name of scien...

I have one bottle each of 1996 Montrose, 1996 Ducru, 1996 Las Cases. Which one do BWE'ers think I should open first? Meaning which one is most ready to provide pleasure and hopefully fully past any closed down window or dumb phases. I’ve had all 3 and all 3 are drinkable at this stage but with long...

I echo the above, nice haul Joel and I went with a back vintage pickup of a 6pack of the 2016 JF Mugnier Clos de La Marechale NSG 1er for $145/per which yes, is more than it was on release but is also less than the average price for the current vintage on the market.

I tasted the Calon and the Montrose one after the other at a Zachys in-store tasting in 2017 (https://www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7522) and they were both excellent which prompted me to double up  IMG_0722.jpeg And not to worry, I think we will be able to try the...

Re: So what have you bought lately?

Yes but is 2016 better in Margaux because the vintage is just overall better across the region? I remember Musigny151 once told us that, as good as the 2015 Giscours was, it was no match for the 2016 Giscours. Sounds as if this warrants a future 2015 vs 2016 Margaux challenge across several propert...

I think you can break Rioja into 2 sides; Logroño with its Pintxo/Tapas district is great — thinking Laurel Street. It is close to Marquis de Riscal, with the Frank Gehry hotel which is kind of on its own but is the most luxurious, Relais & Chateaux restaurant which is Michelin starred ...
