Re: 2005 Leoville Barton uncorked

I think it really begs the question, with all of the improvements in winemaking prowess up until that point, when will these wines from this universally praised 2005 vintage begin to shine?

Re: 2014 Clos de la Roilette Tardive

Nice, still have a couple of mags of the 2014 and like you, I opened a CdlR yesterday in the 2022 Fleurie as Cru Bojo really makes for the perfect Thanksgiving wine.

2005 Leoville Barton uncorked

So I’ve been staring at this unopened, original wood case of 2005 Leoville Barton for the better part of the last 15 years and against my better judgement, I pulled a bottle tonight. After a two hour double decant, there were faint dark fruited and tobacco aromas hiding behind a wall of impenetrable...

90s Montelena can certainly be great.

And if you were comparing it to a Bdx, would you be north of Bdx in say Saint Julien or south of in Graves?

Re: 2021 Clos de la Roilette

A timely post with Thanksgiving right around the corner. Love these wines and the straight fleurie is great to drink while you allow the Cuvee Tardive to age to stretch its legs. I skipped the straight fleurie in 2021 after tasting a btl but bought the CT in multiple formats, 750, mag and 3L as well...

Re: 1988 Pichon Lalande

88 Lalande has always been an under appreciated effort and likely because while Parker called it one of the wines of the vintage he bestowed a lowly 90 point score which likely sealed its fate, but the wine is better than that; nicely done and happy belated. https://www.farrvintners.com/wine.php?win...

Nice notes as always Ian and it’s too bad that there were no standouts given the advertised lineup.

And I remember buying the 2001 Pontet Canet @ Zachys off the shelf for $26.99/per and can’t help but think, boy how times have changed!

Jim, No matter what you think, airing your dirty laundry on a public forum was a poor decision. For someone who claims to welcome anyone in the BWE family, you sure are doing a great job of driving family away. Blanquito, Comte, Musigny are all wine lovers that I’ve met thanks to this very forum, ha...

I will stick to my guns and say that I preferred the Lalande and the Purple Baron when I tasted them side by side at the UGC several years back. But based on your note, not the JD100 <insert roll eyes emoji> I will probably buy some Lynch at some point soon so that I can retaste them down the line a...

Your name came up this weekend, blanquito. As did that of some homeless guy, I can't remember his name, I think he had a pony tail, and JC, and dinners in NY where even the BD* was not invited (can you believe it, who would be part of such a clique), past and present.... certainly not, gasp, Comte!...

Nice, Mouton versus Gruaud, Pauillac versus Saint Julien … if the 86 GL is a good btl then that’s got my vote for WOTN.

2019 Moulin Saint-Georges TN

Chateau Moulin Saint-Georges is owned by the Vauthier family of Chateau Ausone and I think it represents one of Saint-Emilion’s best kept secrets coming from a different, lesser, flat terroir from just across the street at 1/10th the price. 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges A lovely melange of cherry and ra...

My non-classified Right Bank pick would be Moulin Saint-Georges in Saint-Emilion. It has ~2500 case production from a 7 hectare vineyard in the heart of Saint Emilion adjacent to Ausone. Made by the same owner and winemaker albeit from a different, lesser, non sloping terroir from across the street....

While the 20 point scoring system works as well as the letter grading system which our own Arv employs, I can’t help but state that I’m with Joel on this one in that I would find it hard to drop a system I am innately familiar with in favor of something other. In my 3rd Tuesday of the month group we...

Does her disinterest apply more specifically to the cabernet based wines or merlot based ones or is it an equal disinterest in both? And could this disinterest have to do with the apparent maturity of the wines you’ve been drinking?

A wonderful cross selection of some of my favorite Cru Bojo producers though Coudert makes additional wines including the entry level Cuvee Christie and also a recently introduced a Moulin a Vent to his lineup.

JimHow wrote: Tue Aug 15, 2023 7:39 pm What is your definition of the Medoc?
Above the city of Bordeaux. It was generic as to cast the wide net to narrow down the region before going area by area in an attempt to isolate it.

But Haut-Medoc is my next guess.
