Re: TN: Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno 2001

Thanks for the note. I have a couple of the cellar that I've been tempted to try but have been resisting. How many more years do youe suspect it will take to soften up?

Re: WA Issue: 07Rhone,06 Piedmont, and Washington - high scores

I think a lot of people are just fatigued by all the "greatest vintage" of the century, lifetime, decade, or whatever other superlative that wine writers can think of. Yes, I don't think anyone can argue abouty point inflation. I know the general quality of wines has improved, no arguement...

Re: Question on cooking "cooked" Burgundy wine

That 96' vintage really stung a lot of people. I remember having a bottle of Domaine Laroche Les Clos Chablis that Micheal Laroche said to age at least 8-10 years to enjoy at it's peak. BIG mistake. Opened a couple of years ago and it was totally shot. Not corked but just Blahhhhh. An old saying I'v...

Re: I've crossed over to the darkside of Brdx!!!

Tom, Thanks so much for all your suggestions, I'll definately be on the lookout for any of your recommendations. I totally agree about Ch. Gruaud Larose, It is extremely undervalued due to RP's recent trashing. I'm no expert and maybe some of their recent wines don't measure up but not too long ago ...

Re: I've crossed over to the darkside of Brdx!!!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I'll definately keep my eyes open for the 85' St Pierre. The eightie's are the years that are really a crap shoot for me. Not from personal experience, but from looking at reviews, I believe that a lot of the 3rd thru 5th growths really started to produce some g...

I've crossed over to the darkside of Brdx!!!

In reviewing my cellar composition lately I've discover that my tastes have officially changed and I've been lured over the ocean from CA to Brdx. Previously my cellar was lopsided towards CA and I viewed Brdx as a wine that you had to wait 30 years to drink and had to pay through the nose for the p...

Re: TN: 2006 Clerc Milon

Jim, If you happen to see the deMalle up your way it's a steal for the price of admission of $17/btl after discount. I only wish it had a little more boytris but other than that it's my kind of Sauterne. It's not overtly sweet or cloying and has good acidity. Not flabby which leads me to believe tyh...

Re: TN: Haut Brion 2006

I picked up a bottle of 06' Pape Clement for $77 after discount in NH. The 06 Haut Brion would be $296 after case discount.

Jim - I wish I could make it up for Thursday night, sounds like a lot of fun. It's just not possible. I'm sure we'll find some opportunity to drink well in BoothBay Harbor. Susan and Rob - Susan & Michael and Lisa & I are good to go Sunday the 6th. It looks like my house is our best option,...

Re: TN's from a dinner with budding King Fung Off-liners

Michael, My kids would have been terrified if they saw the heads still on the ducks! My son would have tried only because he'd knoe that it would freak out his sisters. Insightful note on the 05' Varner Pinot. That's a winery that I've had my eye on for a while and I'd like to start trying their pin...
