Re: BWE Saturday Convention Notes/Pics/Vids

Great write up Joel. You surely have the "BWE spirit". BWEers are the nicest people you can find.

Killer wines there, some of my all time favorite. 1985 Mission and 1982 Gruaud, when enjoyed with great people, i prefer not think about it... as i missed that one...

Well, as simple as Nic can be

I wish you all, in that holiday time, when family, friends, and all other people unknown to me (us) are so important, to add a touch of Holy Water in your red Bordeaux, and give more friendship, love... Merry Christmas to all BWEers!

While I liked the 2019 we had in London, and the Montrose surely was great, but I remember the group preferring Giscours and d’Issan that night. And thinking about it, yes they were big these 2019, so those who are proposing a 2020 I can understand that. The 2020 Calon Ségur is surely greater now (t...

All good comments. As pointed out by dstgolf, price difference between the Fortuna Giobi and Sassicaia is 100 $. The group prefered the Sass, but for drinking right now, i prefeted the Giobi. But i have to admit, i'm not a "label" drinker, or the type of person that give high scores to win...

Nice notes jackdaw's 2nd song. Are you the "original" jackdaw? We had some 2019 earlier this year, only Médoc wines, but while hard to judge in a quick blind tasting, i thougth really good things about the 4 wines we had : Giscours, d'Issan, Lynch Bages and Montrose. I also had Montlandrie...

Mini dreamer tasting

December 14 Tasting club. Dreamer. All the wines presented well. All very good, difficult to choose the best! 2005 Château Destieux: a beautiful Saint Émilion in a modern style, but not overrated. Powerful nose of creamy oak, plums, chocolate, vanilla, sweet blackberries and raspberries. Rich palate...

Thanks for the notes David. I guess these two wines aren't for me. Never had them, don't own any. Very concentrated Bordeaux is kind of a dangerous bet. Bordeaux is recognized for "claret" balanced and complex wines. Gloopier or hyper-modern in comments about wines are a bit turn off to me.

Re: 2023 BWE WOTY

If it is a significative wine for BWE, why not go with the 1975 Petrus? I guess that wine, generously offered by Comte Flaneur earlier this year, in 3 liters format, has surely marked forever the minds of BWEers. Of course, not as affordable or available as some 2018-2019-2020 red Bordeaux, but dese...

I agree jckba. I just realized that when i used the word "traditionnal", it is probably not the right word, as when describing "traditionnal" Bordeaux, meaning classic, slightly austere, can age well. This is what i think about Ridge wines. For Turley, i agree with you, better in...

Last night, at a friend birthday party, brought a bottle of the 2021 Turley Cuvée Juveniles. So the 2005 Léoville Barton not ready? I can stand that as I always thought 2005 was a great vintage, but best wines would need minimum 30 years… as the regular regional Bordeaux can probably make 10-12 years easily. One wine I thought was ok to drink from 2005 is Lagrange, that is not as concentrat...

Although 2021 really seems less concentrated than 2019-2020, the result is the same: a rapid disappearance of the liquid, and a dead bottle, ready to be recycled.
