Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
The worst thing I read in all this Premier Cru mess was an interview where some guy said , "I bought these wines so I could flip them. Now I lost money. What do I tell my wife." I think that's the same guy who tried doing that with a house around the corner from us. Found out the hard way...

Glad you feel better. I think most people would be at odds with Jim if the Pats end up in the super bowl again. I'm supporting the Cats (Panthers). But we can't keep squandering big leads. But dayum Brady can throw. Two of my good friends are Pat supporters. One is from Boston. The other because Br...

Very very nice. A wine you buy to drink later. Didn't appreciate to absurd value and make you feel guilty drinking it. I've been sick with severe tonsillitis and need a reward as I started to get better. Susan made a rich beef stew and served with basic French bread and butter. The tar and roses cam...

Apparently 10 different neighbors of Avery have come out and said the guy did it. It's an ugly case all around though. At one point there was a transcript of the nephews confession on the interwebs but it seems harder to find now. I too place a lot of weight on the animal cruelty convictions. Jay's...

Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy
The wine futures market is now dead.
At one time you could buy futures and there was a huge difference in price at time of arrival.
That hasn't been the case since 1995.
PC preyed on people that thought released wines were still available at future prices that never existed to begin with.

Did anyone see 60 Minute recently?

They reported on the Italian mob selling crap olive oil as extra virgin olive oil.
It's not just wine that attracts crooks.
Made me think of this thread.

I am still of the opinion that the wine of the year should come from the vintage that has been released that year otherwise I could see myself voting for a different 2010 every year until until I get upgraded to the tasting room in the sky. Wines that I think have improved quite a bit over the past...

Re: Bordeaux: a trickle down effect?
Luckily I was introduced to Bordeaux in a great vintage. My epiphany was 1982 Talbot. WOW! But had I tried some of the under ripe vintages from the 70's I may have passed. Then I tried to look for Bordeaux bargains. A drinkable bargain back then was Larose Trintaudon. In addition to the trickle down...

How do you define “great growths”? Any classified Bordeaux or first growths? Many of the lesser growths don't get much air play here in the USA. Mention Malbec from Argentina and every one gushes praise. Mention Cahors (technically not Bordeaux) and no one knows what you're talking about. New Zealan...

Let's go to dinner at least once.

Very nicely done, Rob, that 2009 Cantemerle is a beauty too. I'm gonna order another 6 bottles of the 2010 from MacArthur's, a little more expensive than PC and some of the other places, but I like their really quick service. Funny you should say that. I purchased both there. Yea a little more, but...
