Cellartracker

After my computer drive was wiped by a virus and human error, I thought I should put the cellar on Cellartracker for the sake of redundancy. I must admit to being impressed, great software, intuitive and yet powerful. It's fun to look at my stats. The board should be happy to know the cellar is 51% ...

Re: Wine list description, what's your take?

Hound, I completely agree with your description. And while the description is accurate, I feel it is still misleading especially to the novice bordeaux drinker. A little knowledge will get you a second class wine. BTW the wine cost $91.00.

Hound, I think they own a few acres in St. Julien and apparently they bottle and sell it. But I don't know if they do it every year.

So I want your opinions, I was at French restaurant in Monterey this weekend and these were on the wine menu: 2001 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - St. Julian. 2006 Les Tourelles de Longueville - Pauillac Your impression from what is written, what is the first wine? I love this wine. I hyped it here alot. It was a great bargain when it first came out and I bought and drank. Must have gone through a case. I never thought of it as woody not too hot. I haven't had a bottle in over a year so I can't where it is now but from my recollection, I would say Jim is right...

Re: Bordeaux 2010 primeur prices - final thoughts

I gave up predicting the economics of wine long ago. I personally feel that the industry has gone nuts but it seems they can charge whatever they want and still there will be an infinite supply of buyers. All I know is, I've been priced out of the game in Bordeaux and much of Burgundy.

2002 Leoville Poyferre: a good wine in a good place. Medium bodied, nice concentration. Bright acids, tannins softening. Dark fruits. Very drinkable. Nice finish. What a bargain this was. 2002 Clos D’Estrounel a step up from the Leoville. Fuller bodied, more concentrated but not bloated or lacking i...

Gurus is their influence waning?

As Bob said, the times they are a changin. In the 80's there was no internet, not winetv, and no weekly articles on wine in the paper. Robert P and a few others in the States and Coates in England saw the tide rising and sailed with it. But that was yesterday and yesterday's gone. Is there a need fo...

2009 St. Innocent Village

Saw this at a restaurant in Oakland and thought I would give it a try. Glenn and Bll J have both strongly recommend this winery and I am jumping on the train. This was a lowly "village" wine, young but so easy to like. This not a french copy of burgundy, but still a pleasure. It is medium ...

I've had the 86,96 and a very young 2000. I thought those to be excellent though even at 20 years, I felt the 86 had a few years to go to reach it's pleateau. My experience is limited but those that I've had were excellent considering their youth.

Re: When the cooling unit stops.

Tailorcut, in 20 years I have not had a problem with my corks. In the summer I keep an open bottle of water just to add a touch of humidity. My cellar is small a pantry 39 sq feet (32x72x78), so an AC may not work in all cases. In the "free" Parker board days, there were many discussions a...

When the cooling unit stops.

It has been a very cool spring on the west coast so I was alarmed that the wine cellar temperature was slowly creeping up. I had this AC unit for about four years and the cellar was a constant 58F during the year. Yesterday morning I noticed that the unit was constantly in compressor mode (very unus...

Funny story from the convention

I gave my bottle of 89 Lynch to Werner and he started to remove the price tag. I told him that I always leave them on. He asked why, nobody care that you paid $299 for the bottle. I replied, no, that was $29.99 in 1992.
