Interesting article on that case in the New York Times by Farhad Manjoo. He was troubled by how quickly the jury came back, considering all the "data" introduced on both sides of the case to be considered.

I've never seen anything like the hardship I'm seeing these days. Jim, I agree. The difference between those who have and those who have not has greatly expanded, leaving those who have not in a much worse situation. From a socio-economic "theory" perspective, there are many explanations ...

I cannot speak to the lead/no lead question. For everyday use, I use this decanter from Riedel. It's nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. I think it runs about $50 +/-, and is usually available from Amazon.

Alex, unfortunately, pharma and medical companies can pretty much charge whatever they want to in the US. And the main reason they can get away with it is that much of it is covered by insurance companies, which is why health insurance is so expensive in this country.

Re: Good luck Harry C!

I'm a turf agronomy guy. They likely used perennial ryegrass to overseed the Bermudagrass to fill in the gaps and make the turf look nice on camera. I saw an article today that said that is exactly what they did and the likely reason why. I also learned that they moved that entire field of turf out...

I agree it was technically holding, but that happens on a lot of pass plays, and is rarely called. I would not mind that call if it was getting routinely flagged.

Speaking of Latour, any recent experiences with the 1970? I happened to come into possession of a single bottle of 1970 when my wine tasting club in Chicago purchased the cellar of a former member, and ended up "dividending" some bottles to current members. I've just been sitting on it for...

Thanks for posting this Alex. It's pretty impressive how some wines can hold up over time. In my days of buying Napa cabs, I used to keep an eye on Cain Five, watching for any sales or promotions. Sadly there were few, so I think I only had it twice.

The 2019 Felsina Chianti Classico is a great wine for drinking now, even though it will age easily for 5+ more years. And the 2017 Rancia is a wow wine. If interested, you can still get the 750s of the Rancia at Empire Wine for about $47 with free shipping on a case of 12 bottles that qualify.

Re: (Extra) stupid question: what would you pay for a 22 year-old Bordeaux?

You raise a very good question, especially since you paid $21 originally. The cheapest price I see on Winesearcher is $99. At that price, I'd be looking for something else. It seems that limited supply may driven the price above the actual level of quality. Not that it's not good. But consider the o...

I manage to make my way through the episodes. It's pretty lightweight, but scenes of Paris and France are nice. We were on a train from Tours to Paris in September and saw some of the cast on the train (not Emily).

Re: I still say there is something fishy going on with the supply chain of 2019 Bordeaux.

It seems to me that 2019 may be the exception of recent years. Due to the pandemic, I suspect wineries were reticent to push prices for fear of people not buying. As a result, the few "smaller" 2019 wines I bought on futures are 30-40% above what I paid. And the Pontet Canet is over 50% ab...

Interesting notes on the 2019 Siran. I went back to the Vinous website to see what their reviews said. Galloni rated it 94 with drinking window of 2027-2049. Neal Martin rated it 94 with drinking window of 2024-2060. Galloni did say, "There's not a lot of subtlety here, but, then, again, who ca...

Sad story about Sherry Lehman; I was not aware of developments during the last 10-15 years. My very limited experience with them was when I lived in Manhattan for about 4 months in 1999 while working on a project there. I used to go to the store to buy a few bottles to stock the apartment.

I ordered 4 futures from 2019.

Siran, Tour St. Christophe, Lilian Ladouys - all lower level wines - have arrived. The only one still awaiting delivery is Pontet Canet, and given my futures price, I'm waiting to see if they really deliver it.

Jim, do you know if it costs more to heat with oil than with natural gas at current prices? Wondering if it would be worth the investment to convert to gas furnace equipment - assuming you have access to natural gas where you are.
