Re: 2000 Pichon Baron vs. 2000 Pape Clement

I remember that bottle of Pape Clement, Jim... I think a good many (but probably not all) of these "New-Worldy" Bordeaux will mellow out just fine with 15-20 years ageing. If I am proven wrong, Comte, in the full course of time, I will meekly submit to drinking all of your 2000 Margaux as ...

BWE DC '09: Saturday blind tasting update

In the main BWE DC '09 thread, Stefan and Jim came up with a theme for the blind tasting at Charlie Palmer Steak on Saturday night, and I'm starting this thread to pick the wines and source them. The theme is: Bordeaux from the Golden Decade of the 1980s, or... Bordeaux from Before Nic Could Legally...

I'm with Stefan. A few '00s were approachable young. Grand Pontet, Prieure Lichine, Monbousquet, Giscours are a few examples in my experience. Most of the others are going to sleep in my cellar for at least another 5 years. The best for probably 10. Though I do appreciate the notes from those willin...

National airport is much closer and a less expensive cab ride to the hotel than BWI. Rick, here's the MARC train schedule for the Penn Line , which goes from BWI airport to DC's Union Station. The fare is $6. A cab from BWI to DC would probably be well over $50. If you do fly in to BWI and take the ...

Rick, there is a local train that goes from BWI airport to Union Station in DC. It runs about once an hour. I think it costs about $6. It leaves from the BWI Amtrak station, which is about 2 miles from the airport and is a free shuttle ride from BWI airport.

I think Otto may be describing the same wine you had, Jim - green and herbaceous rather than overtly fruity. Some people really enjoy that and see it as a hallmark of classic Bdx. Others like lush ripe fruit, the riper and lusher the better, and can't stand even a hint of herbaceousness. And some li...

This has been sitting in my temp-controlled cellar since release. The cork was soaked through and cruddy on the surface, but there was no ullage. That was a pop/pour note - it actually got a little longer on the palate after an hour or two. RP says this is getting old - I have to disagree.
