Re: CnDP tasting month: Vieux Telegraph La Crau 1998

By the way the question came up elsewhere today about a Chateauneuf called Marcoux Vieilles Vignes, 1990 It just so happened that I had tried it after some glorious Chave Blancs at Kittle House in April last year This was my note: Men’s locker room-squash court-squash ball, then sandal wood; gamey; ...

Harry - I am less concerned with who is considered to be tradional or modern than the quality of the contents of the bottle...in Piedmont - a region I am more familiar with - the distinction is somewhat spurious in my opinion. CnDP tasting month: Vieux Telegraph La Crau 1998

As a brief aside one of my epithanous wine experiences was with a young Vieux Telegraph in a London wine bar 20 years ago. Fast forward to 2009 and I open this and I get a nice maroon colour and then I get a sweaty bouquet; sweaty jockstraps...wonderful (in a wine); cedar, talcum powder and then som...

I finally tried on last night, here is my note: Popped the first Wine Society "mystery" (i.e., worst kept secret) 2005 Pauillac tonight, less than 72 hours after a transatlantic crossing. Bright sparkly purple (rather than deep purple); young, vibrant, light on its feet it dances across th...

Yes that's right David - I tried it about a year and a half ago and to my tastes it was a bit confected and artificial - as if the winemaker(s) was trying to hard to extract rather than let the vintage do the talking; but it seemed to be in an awkward stage - I guess I am going off that modern Angel...

My favourite 04s are from the Medoc - Montrose, Pontet-Canet (exceptional), Ducru and Leoville-Barton (which was really curmudgeonly in its youth). Less keen on La Mish (bit hollow in the mid-palate), L'Eglise-Clinet and Angelus (a bit contrived). Pape Clement is nice. Latour is going through a very...

I tend to agree with Chase...though there are no hard and fast rules...for example the 2004 Pio Cesare is drinking really well now but it will probably close down, while the 1997 is still backward, quite hard and coming out of a dumb stage. Two splendid burgundy villages from Roumier and Coche Dury

The Roumier was a straight Chambolle Musigny from the 2000 vintage. In contrast to Bordeaux the 2000s in burgundy are regarded as a useful vintage for relatively early drinking. This wine is ready to drink but it is no lightweight. It has an amazing earthy nose, delicious red fruits on the palate, a...

Alch The production of the grand vin is typically 18-20k cases, the production of Les Forts is typically 8-10k and the production of Pauillac Latour is way smaller. Arguably Les Forts is not really a second wine at all - well, it is consistently the best second wine out there, and arguably a second ...

Another vote for 2002 Lagrange. I tried it a couple of years back in Holland and immediately went out and bought a case.
