My Fav is Domaine Carneros, Tattingers Cali sparkler. They use the Dijon Clone of Chardonnay. Most Cali sparklers are made with the prolific(over productive)Macon Clone that give a bubble gum note in the nose and mouth. The Dijon clone has finesse and is naturally given to lesser yields. Last year a...

I've found some of the 05s are shutting down. I have a solo btl of La Vieille Cure and will hold for a few years. I loved the 2000 and liked the 03 as well. I'll probably buy a couple more, I bought mine at Garys in NJ. I think they are around $30-$35 per btl. On a side note both the 06 Bordeauxs an...

Ian and All,
I'm still in and can make the "Grand Event" at 6:00PM. I agree we should take a slow pace to see how these wines evolve in the glass. How many times have you seen a wine blossom from OK to Glorious with a half hour in the glass?

I brought the first tasted of the two btls of the 82 Gruaud Larose. I had bought it some six months ago from one of my customers for $125.00. He was moving away and sold most of his wines. It was very good on opening but didn't have the massive structure and fruit that other 82 Gruauds I've had. It ...

Patrick, What vintage was the Antinori ? Nice group of wines, I must say. 96 Barolos will need more time for acids to settle down, similar to left bank 96 Bordeaux. I only have two 96 Barolos, Giacosa Red Lable Riserva and Azellia. I'll wait another five years on them. 89 and 90 are great vintages f...

Lopez de Heredia, Alion, Serria Cantabria, Muga Prado Ena ( Torre Muga too modern for me with the flashy oak), Remelluri. There is btl variation on older Tondonia and Bosconia, I've drunk them back to the 1970 vintage and when they are on they are wonderful. Similar to great aged Burgundy.

Re: Rodano CCR Viacosta 04
The 01s are excellent. That said, Chianti is a very acidic wine. Thats why many producers are blending Merlot and Cabernet to lower the acidity and have the wines become "rounder". I prefer the 01s over the 04s as the range of excellent wines, for me, is higher in the 01 vintage. One of th...

Jacques,
Try a wine called "Fusion" it's a Bordeaux blend of Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, and Merlot, from the Galalee Heights. The lable is black with some red bands. It sells for $18.00 at Zachys and is one of best selling Kosher wines.
See you soon,

Cellar Tracker is the best gauge for me. You get to know the names of the posters ( at least 5-10 BWE Folk) and can be certain that a wine reviewed in the last 6 months is an accurate picture of what you should get if you open one. It's fun to read one posters comments (Stuarts "SDR") over...

In late winter/early spring, I took Jackdaw and his Mrs to a Polaner Tasting. The 01 Rodano Viacosta made one of the biggest impressions on me that day. Who brought the Cuvee Freddie? The 2000 is a Mini Clos St Hune at 1/4 the price. Matt Kramer extolled the virtues of this 2000, saying it is almost as great as the Hune.
