Nice range of wines, Harry.

Nic, Shafer Hillside is probably my favorite California Cab. I'll have to bring one to the next BWE dinner.

Re: 2010 redux

Every time I read one of your 2010 reports, Ian, I am sorely tempted to break my pledge to pass on this and future vintages of Bordeaux. This time it's a half case each of Talbot and Grand Puy Lacoste in my shopping cart, tempting me to plug in my credit card info. Unlike Father Stefan, I am not imm...

Interesting wine choice at Guy Savoy as Hubert Montille passed away last week while lunching with friends and drinking a bottle of his 1999 Pommard Rugiens.

I have to agree with stefan on all counts.

I was so unimpressed with our choices for Governor in Maryland that I left that slot on my ballot blank. I couldn't in good conscience vote for either of them.

Re: 2012 Caymus 40th Anniversary edition

A very good buy if you like it. Are you a fan of Caymus or was this a points-based purchase? I'm pretty oak tolerant but often find the oak overdone in their wines. I haven't had one in years so perhaps they've evolved. This particular wine was panned by a few people as way too ripe and sweet. AFWE ...

Great report Danny. Hope you and Danielle are feeling better. If the Denver gang is even just half as nice as Blanquito it's no wonder you had a great time. I've drunk many an '83 Gruaud and '88 Lynch and Angelus and your notes capture them perfectly. Only had the '00 Trimbach cuvée Freddie once and...

I just heard that their second wine in 2012, Hauts de Pontet, was denied the AOC Pauillac classification by the tasting panel for lack of typicity. Something about not enough oak??? It will be labeled as a Vin de France. http://www.wine-searcher.com/m/2014/10/pontet-canet-second-wine-relegated-to-ta...

Dinner at Schwa Chicago: Dom Oeno, Prum, Casalferro, RWT

Well, this dinner exceeded my expectations. The menu posted online was apparently an older sample, as what we were served bore only a vague resemblance to it. Reservations are a bit tricky but not as tough as Goosefoot or Alinea. I got in with under two weeks notice, on a weeknight. The trick is to ...

USDA says wine has 100 cal/4 oz but of course that can vary widely depending on alcohol and residual sugar. So 585 calories for the food plus 300 cal for a half bottle = 885 cal. Normal intake is 1800-2000 per day but of course that varies by exercise, height, etc. I don't think you can look at a si...
