Re: So what have you bought lately?

Just won three bottles of the 2011 Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains for $70 each.

Hope you guys were right about this producer! Gilman also gave this wine high marks, 95 pts worth.

When to drink?

Re: Zoom meeting tasting notes

OK I will get the ball rolling 2000 La Tour Haut Brion Double decanted at 5pm four hours before the conference. Still taut, youthful, with smoky, scorched earth notes, tensile and not particularly generous right now; coiled and strict, holding back something in reserve. As the call progressed it be...

Re: Zoom meeting tasting notes

2015 Chateau Siran is an excellent, even more than excellent fot the price. Dark color, nose of concentrayed blsckberries and red Margaux berries, light spices, light oak and some rasberries. In mouth, young but with that balanced power, flavored with red berries, cinnamon, spices, more red fruits....

Sorry I had to miss it, gents. 2 PM local Colorado time just couldn’t work for me given the full-time domestic situation during lockdown and a six-year-old and a three-year-old loving their constant parental attention. Looks like it was a great online offline!

Finished a great bottle of 2004 Selvapiana Bucerchiale Riserva Chianti Rufina last night. This is in a great place. Traditional stylings combined with tremendous freshness and a terrific core of unadulterated fruit. One of my favorite Tuscan wines and truly one of the world’s great QPRs at $25-30. I...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?

I opened a bottle of the 2004 Geyserville this week. Both Paula and I thought it was fabulous. It had such lovely balance and, surprisingly for a Zin, it was almost Burgundy-like in its finesse. It may be the best Ridge Zin I've ever drunk. Sounds great. I normally love Geyserville, it’s probably m...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?

Had an 01 Ridge Geyserville last night. Just needed some lamb stew. Very good, but I suspect it was better/fresher 4-5 years ago: Rich, roasted, jammy bouquet reminiscent of cocoa powder, cassis reduction, hot chocolate, black cherry compote, and minty-eucalyptic topnotes. There’s something a touch ...

And when speaking of investment grade 1st growth wines, could the 2016 Mouton Rothschild be the most investable Bdx wine ever at that $600 +/- price point? What was the price of '61 Latour in 1965? In real terms, I’d still wager the 61 was way cheaper in 1965 than where first growths are priced tod...

I just got some for $65 at auction, and the bottles look pristine. That’s as high as I’ve gone for this wine — it used to be out there pretty regularly for $50 or $55 not long ago — but the condition of the bottles made me do it.

I had a number of excellent bottles of the 89 and 90 La Gurgue, all consumed by 2001. These were super cheap in 1994 and 1995 and were a stable at dinners in grad school.

I bought some 05 LGurgue, but have yet to try one. This note is making me want to change that.
