Re: The world is crashing, but Carruades holding firm

I think the price of 2005 Carruades will be a baramoter, a canary-in-a-coal-mine indicator of world financial health. If the price goes under $73, we will officially be in a depression.

Other than Bordeaux, my experience with wine is limited. My experiences with California, Italy, Germany, Spain, are very limited. I've been drinking more Burgundy in the past year or two, and one of my goals in the year ahead is to expand next into the Rhone valley.

#13. Timmy McCracken donates his Pontet Canet collection to the BWE cause. A couple years ago we selected the 2003 Pontet Canet as the BWE Wine of the Year. We sent a congratulatory letter to Alfred Tesseron and met up with him for a Pontet Canet vertical in NYC. In a splendid act of generosity, Ti...

That was the 2005 Jadot Meursault, John, a pleasant little surprise in its restraint and subtlety. Nothing mind-boggling, mind you, but a solid effort, and better than the last time I had it, probably last fall, when it seemed a bit more tart.

I think this is something that surely can appeal to all members of Congress in a bipartisan spirit, Tom. With a $500K stimulus check, I would "invest" the money into the next Zachy's auction, focusing primarily on the cellars of American "gentlemen," thus contributing to the loca...

Mark, SteveH and I posted consistent notes on the old BWE, the 2000 Carruades is swill. I have never sold a bottle of wine in my life but if I ever did it would be this. The prices of Carruades over here in the U.S. have been criminal.

That last bottle of 2000 Carruades I had a few months back was a notch above swill.
