Re: Two fine Médocs and a reflection on vintage reputations
I bet long on two 2003s. Calon Segur (sentimental favorite) and Pavie MacQuin (Always love it). May have some other scattered bottles. The weird things about anomalous years is you can't predict them. Never been seen before. So who knows. And that's the coolest part of collecting vintages. What kiss...

FWIW I think Margaux appellation is an exception in 1983. Palmer and others are still in fine shape.
But as previously stated, hard to generalize.

I'll go out on a limb and say a lot of 2003's will be "port like" in a good way.
A misunderstood vintage.
BUT you had to be selective.

My nugget is the obnoxious loud talking at his table while Francois, others, and I were speaking. They brought '82 Cheval Blanc and other epic wines and kept them at their table… after drinking the Anonymous Benefactor's 1982s and all of the other awesome wines. The auction houses involved have dirty hands too. They were told the wines were fake and proceeded with sales. If Ponsot had not showed do you think the lot would have been sold? I say yes. The lots were there on the floor ready to go.

I disagree on Rudy.
He had a counterfeit factory in his abode.
More than a pawn.
But he may have had help.
I forgot the Frenchman's name who said the wines tasted wrong and doubted they were even Burgundy.
Pretty astute.....

Not too worried about the wines I own.
Cold storage. And Bordeaux declines very very slowly IMHO.
Had 1990 Haut-Bailly a week ago. Wonderfully smooth and rich. I love Grave, Pessac Leognan.
The stepping stone between the left and right banks.

Maureen Downey. Smelled a rat from the beginning. In the long run protected Zachy's integrity.

I have a cold cellar and everything was purchased on release.
My bottles of 1990 have a good number of years left.

2004 Smith Haut Lafite was badly oxidized. 6 out of six bottles cooked and I'm convinced this case was heat damaged.

Re: The 1994 Chateau Angelus has been unplugged...
It was a difficult vintage.
But after 1992 and 1993 it was godsend.
Parker initially gave left bank wines pretty high early marks and drastically lowered them later.
Then when the 1995's came out the market dumped them.

I love them with young fruit intensity.
I like the smooth integration when there are amble parts that meld.
But I feel stupid drinking a dumb wine.
And really stupid drinking a wine over the hill.
But each bottle is magic.
Wonder where it is now?
