Easy Harry : let say you open a 1995 Pichon Baron that is corked or other kind of default, you take a Mulligan until the next bottle of 1995 Pichon Baron you will uncork.

Re: Northern Rhone night at Cabotte

Thank you Ian as i’m a fan of Northern Rhône and like to read notes about any. I’m more a Côte Rôtie/Cornas guy, but Hermitage can move me too ( aaaahh the 2003 Chave). Impressed that the Cornas was the best flight. I don’t know Michel Robert, but Balthazard and Allemand are solid producers. I had a...

2014 Grande Année was lemony, flowery, bread crust, saline, hazelnuts. Complex well made Champagne. Mouth has some light red berries, but swallowed in saline, confit lemon, ginger, light oak, and vine root length. Nasty. Very nice JC.

Montrose seems to (almost?) never deceive. Every vintages are classic.

In Montréal, Jim brought a 2010 that was an exception : crazily concentrated, demonic tannins, strong as Superman… needs lots of kryptonite and time…

Re: Points, scores, and ratings

I play the game and use the 100 points scale as well. But in all truths, the 100 points scale has just 6 levels: 100 97-99 94-96 91-93 90 <90 For the common mortals, is there a real noticeable difference between a wine rated 97 vs 98? Ihave some doubts… At the end, maybe using golf (dstgolf would li...

Rioja made by Telmo Rodriguez. A very nice and complex wine for the affordable price. Lot of tempranillo redberry fruit, some black fruit, tobacco, very light vanilla oak, smoky sweet beef jerky. The less heralded grape sylvaner, can give good results in Alsace. Like this one. The 2021 Leon Boesch Pierres Rouges Sylvaner. Of course GBF, i exaggerate a bit and there are many good wines in St Émilion, the two Beauséjour are among them.

But i don’t know from which vineyard or mix of vineyards is coming, but i thought it was great, kind of link to Ausone style, complex, classic, no glossy, over ripe or too oaky tones.
