So far this year $669 for 3 various NV Champagne, 3 half bottles of Chianti, 3 Bourgogne Rouge and 3 Chambolle Musigny Village (all reported in the "So what have you bought lately" thread: http://www.bordeauxwineenthusiasts.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5404 I think this is manageable for no...

Well, I tried a 2004 Malescot in September 2019 and it was very disappointing. The Smith Haut Lafitte is a better bet.
I would try Poyferre before Barton and Pape Clement.
2004 Burgundies were very green upon release, they are much better now.
2004 Chiantis are fantastic.

Wonderful tasting Ian, the Palmer, Pichon Lalande and Rauzan Segla sound amazing. I hope you snuck up to the other table to have a sip. You didn't make out too badly though with the Bartons and the two Graves.
Jean Christophe, that was an epic night! The 1985 Lynch was so good that evening!

2012 Louis Jadot Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugien (375 ml) PnP. Stony, mineral-laden nose; coaxing reveals a mixed berry aroma. This needs time. Excellent mouthfeel but lacks fruit. Hold until 2025. Side note: this is exactly what I don't get about Burgundy. An 11 year-old wine from a half and a lesser v...

These were amazing in 2007: Every d'Angerville Volnay Mugnier NSG Clos de la Marechale Roumier Morey St Denis Clos de la Bussiere Bachelet (all the spectrum) Clavelier Chambolle Combe d'Orveau And a bunch of others that were just good. I have had only good to great experience with 2007 Burgundy. Critics panned it, I bought and loved everything I tried from that vintage. To his credit Eric Asimov did say the wines were charming and can be drunk early.

As I stated many times before, Grand Puy Lacoste is not my favorite, it may have improved finally but I'm not paying $$ to find out. Leoville Barton is also not a favorite, I have had many different vintages of this estate and it never wooed me. It is always correct, it has never given much emotion....

Ha, true. And I enjoyed the 2010 Troplong (lots of alcohol) Mondot, but in fairness I am not as excited about young Bordeaux these days as I used to be. So many other wines from other regions I enjoy more.

These don't get too expensive when older. I bought at Winebid a bottle of 2001 Pavelot Dominodes for $61 (before all fees) in August '21. I think you can definitely enjoy young, Patrick. No need for 2-3 blanquitos, Blanquito. There are no harsh tannins a la Medoc, the wine will change with age, but ...

I haven't bought at auction in about a year, I have had only good experiences with older wines. My worst experience was with a 1995 Duhart Milon but it's hard to tell if it was the wine that was just mediocre.

Wonderful Nicolas, happy birthday again. I love Taupenot-Merme Chambolle and the Combe d'Orveaux is a fantastic vineyard. Actually even the regular Bourgogne Rouge from that producer is excellent. Highly recommended and the prices are still (sort of) reasonable. I have not tried either the 1995 or 1...

Eat your heart out 2 Buck Chuck. *Not had the ‘13, but I’ve enjoyed many bottles of Wind Gap chardonnay from ‘08-‘12, I usually paid around $20 each for those. The youngest of any of the first growths I've had was the 2004 Haut Brion. My experience in newer vintages is between very limited and nonexistent. After that disclaimer, to my taste, Lafite first and then Margaux hit heights that cannot be matched by any of the others. Haut Brion and Mouton have at...

We opened a 2017 Roulot white Bourgogne with some tuna tartare and steamed shrimp yesterday and it was a major disappointment. For white burgundies it was a Niellon Chassagne, in 1997 at Goumard Prunier in Paris. We were drinking something nondescript and struck a conversation with a lonely American businessman, he gave me a taste of his wine, the earth shook the angels started singing and nothing was the same afterwards.

I don't have much experience with young Pavelot 1ers. Burghound says the 2017 Guettes is more giving than expected, the 2017 Gravains will need a bit of time, and the 2019 Guettes is quite austere.
