Re: BWE DC '09: Saturday wines and TNs
By the way, my memory could be wrong, but I believe the owner of the "Miami Five" stable picked '89 Lynch as his favorite.... I didn't turn in a score sheet since I felt I had an unfair advantage and would surely get almost everything right - especially since I had tasted all 6 of the con...

Ok, here are some proposed menu items: Again, if you have allergies, etc to any of these please call Dean directly at 202-686-2966 and he will plan a menu to your tastes . Thanks for the advice, Jay. I called Dean yesterday and he was very helpful in suggesting substitutions suitable for my persona...

Re: Post your wines for Friday night at Dino!
Stuart, we can do that, or... I've got an '87 Nieport Colheita I can bring. Not exactly the pedigree (or even the style) of a '63 Taylor, but it might do the trick if you would prefer to serve the '63 on Saturday. Your call. I say bring 'em both on Friday (or at least mine). This could be a good op...

Re: Post your wines for Friday night at Dino!
On the other thread about the Dino dinner, I suggested that my bottle of '63 Taylor go on the Friday list instead of Saturday.
I shipped it to David, but he can hand it over to me before Friday evening, whatever is easiest.

Good question, Jay. I don't see any dessert wine on the list we have posted.Jay Winton wrote:finalizing menu today.
Is anyone bringing sauternes, port, etc for the dessert course?
David - how about bringing the '63 Taylor Friday to Dino instead of Saturday?

The "old" Port turns out to be the 1963 Taylor.

Re: Stuart A Question
Hi, Danny, I hope your trip goes well. I'll keep my suggestions brief, mostly because there is not a lot of choice. Will be staying at the Reneissance Hotel this Friday by the Port for one night. Anything clos that you would recommend. Will be using taxi. The best restaurant in the area for really g...

Re: TN: 1996 Carillon Puligny Montrachet Les Perrieres
Slightly off topic, but my bottle last night of 1996 Leflaive BBM was a goner, despite my best wishful thinking. When I first opened it, everything seemed OK, even wonderful. It may have been my imagination, but it seemed to get darker by the minute as it sat in the glass, rapidly descending into th...

Re: TN: 2005 Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Sec
Interesting that you mention the pairing of Vouvrey and lemon herbed chicken. I too like the Huet range. Both the sec and the demi-sec work well with chicken; I usually grill the whole bird outside over mesquite chips. The cleansing quality works well and complements the lemon. For some reason I ass...

Re: TN: 1975 Latour at wine dinner
Not a bad lineup JCN.
I remember buying the '75 Latour on sale for $40 in the early eighties, but I unloaded it a few years later, assuming it was hopelessly and permanetly choked by its tannin. It sounds like it has developed beautifully.

I will toss in a 1982 Canon since the right bank seems under-represented to me.
I also will bring an old Port, just in case you are stll thirsty after consuming the 46 bottles we already know about.

Re: TN: 1996 Carillon Puligny Montrachet Les Perrieres
Carillon is number two on my disaster list for prem-ox producers, right behing the champ, Colin-Deleger, with Sauzet a half-length behind. Aging white burgs for no longer than 6 years is not an option for me - the complexity and nuance of great burgs takes more time than that. I too stopped buying a...

Re: tn 2000 leflaive puligny pucelles
I don't recall ever being disappointed with a (Domaine) Leflaive wine. Elegance, balance and flavor authority. I've been lucky so far - no prem-ox bottles yet ('95, '96, '99). The Pucelles is a real beauty, as good as the BBM for me.

Re: TN: 1982 Château Latour à Pomerol (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol)
82 Latour a Pomerol was a wine I had always wanted to drink. My wish was fulfilled at BWE 03 when One of our BWE Sisters or Bretheren brought a btl and placed it on a table to try. Does anyone remember who brought the 82 Latour a Pomerol to BWE 03, it was sooo special? OK, I confess, it was me. But...

Thanks for trying these, Nic, so we don't have to :P Correct only but when you drink that, you understand that when you taste better wines, it is hard to go back to regular sensation like that. TN : 75. Drinkable only. I would bet 2 $ that the 2 bucks Chuck is better... Nic I am bringing a bottle fo...

Re: BWE Dinner-Friday April 3rd-Dino-dc dot com
That place we went to on Friday night in Miami for the Rhone dinner was an Italian restaurant, wasn't it? Yes, it was Jim. Even though the CdPs and Cal cults we had last year might be a better match for most Italian dishes than Burgundy, I think we'll do just fine with young and older Burgs, perhap...

I think I would like to join your party, Jay, but I don't want to repeat my blunder of BWE Sonoma 2004
Is there another event going on Friday evening I did not see?
And what is the wine theme? (I'm hoping for 2005 Burgs.)

Re: The '70 l'Evangile has been uncorked ...
Great note, Roberto; very evocative. L'Evangile is a marvellous Pomerol when it's singing; that's for sure. The '82 and '90 are fabulous and still on the up-swing. Some BWE-ers declared the '82 L'Evagile was as good as, or even better than, the '82 Lafleur and the '70 Petrus last year. The '70 vinta...

Nice wines. PR Winston is hard to beat and most of the '88 champagnes are drinking very well now.

Re: TN: 2000 Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)
Nice note, Roberto.
Leflaive is pricey compared to other white Burg producers, but there is rarely a dissapointment. And so far, at least in my experience, the incidence of oxidized bottles is low.
