Re: Is 2016 TOO perfect?

It’s like the 1961 Latour is perfect, but I like the less than perfect ‘59 better.
A dozen or so bottles in, I find other vintages like 2014 to have more personality than 2016.

So what does this tell us about your preference?
Do you like to kiss the ugly frog or the beauty queen? Common ;-)

Re: Is 2016 TOO perfect?

No way. 14, 15 and 16 are a perfect trio until now. A kind of modern reincarnation of 88, 89 and 90....but much more better, we' ll see. 17, 18 and probably 19 will have to proof their potential to be competetiv. 16 is not overrated in any way. We will have so much fun with that vintage in upcoming ...

Re: 2001 Sociando Mallet

sorry. spoiler.
I'm a big fan of SM but..... 2001, eight weeks ago was a underperformer. Green streak and unfriendly.
Maybe a bad bottle.....14 more to go. Maybe better bottle next time.
Had much more fun with 97, 98, 03 and 10 lately.

under....and out.
Never ever reached possible top performance.
1990 and 1996 showed glance of potential.
Unfortunately no progress last 20 yrs i'm afraid.
I am through.

Far away from beeing mainstream.

Estate performance not vintage matters! You will find lot of 15 vintage wines that will surpass their 09 and 10 peers. Be selective and trust your palate. Thanks to GV.

Re: Thoughts on the 2018 BWE Wine of the Year....

That's what i'm talking about. Rauzan Segla was reasonable priced en primeur im termes of quality, esp. for a second Cru. Giscours, Cantenac Brown, Prieure Lichine and others are good wines in 2015....but play in a different league.... Btw Brane Cantenac was about 10€ cheaper than RS e.p. Also an ex...

@comte
E.g. 95 is much closer to 86 than 96 is to 86.
96 is a contrapoint to 86. Elegant, expessive, friendly.
95 and 86 are "unfriendly" vintages...and will unfortunately be forever...... i fear.

Lagrange and Talbot are great value wines in 96.

Figaec 2009 was fantastic in every way at ep degu in zurich in 2012. No doubt about that.
Best Figeac i ever tasted until now.

@ JimHow
I would call PC 95 and 96 "great" due to it's former performance (e.g. in terms of "classic" wine, whatever that means)
Since then a lot has changed at PC and it's hard to find anything "classic" there these days.
