Re: Giscours 70
Great to hear the 1970 showed so well. Back in the day, I drank through many bottles of 1970 Giscours - they were all wonderful. Probably 10 years since I’ve had one of those. Both the 1979 and 1983 Giscours were very good as well. But I think Giscours was usurped by Rausan Segla as the number 3 win...

Re: Best vintages of Bordeaux dinner
Drank a lot of bottles of 1985 Bordeaux early on - they were so easy to drink, even at 5 or 6 years old. The 1985 Pichon Lalande was a clear winner at the May 21 event organized by Joel. Unfortunately it has become very expensive - saw it recently advertised locally for $459.

Re: What's the first "wine" you ever drank?
As I can best remember, Mateus Rose is probably the first wine I drank. Other early wines include various Almaden. First good wines were German Riesling from Bell Wine in DC in 1974-1976. First good red wines were 1970 Lascombes and Chateau Gloria - blew away everything else at a New Year’s Eve blin...

Those Krug Grand Cuvée can age well for a long time - they usually improve for 5 to 10 years after release. Someone brought a very old Krug MV (like more than 25 years old) to a wine dinner at Black Salt about 6 years ago and it was still very good.

On Sunday, another bottle of 2007 Dom Ruinart Blanc des Blancs - best Champagne I’ve had this year and a lot better than a 2006 Taittinger Comtes that I had earlier in the month. The other bottle on Sunday brought over by a friend was a 2015 Aloft Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Cold Springs Vine...

Blanquito,
Ruinart dinner at Marcel’s in DC next week with 2010 Dom Perignon and Krug Grand Cuvée thrown in to make everyone happy. Only $350 per person! The one last week sold out as soon as it was announced so they added another for next week.

Another great BWE Zoom. The Champagne, I was drinking was Andre Clouet Rose NV that is made from 100% Grand Cru Pinot Noir, 10% of which is still red wine. Very flavorful but a bit on the dry side. I thought it was well worth the $50 price.

Jim,
I thought that for an obviously abused 38 and a half years old bottle that 1982 Lynch Bages was pretty good - I’d give it about 92 points. Some recent ratings on Cellar Tracker have been 95-97.

Interesting thread. A few thoughts - I have had universally good experiences with 1985 Lynch Bages, 1989 LB is always very impressive but some bottles have been a bit closed (too young?), not as much a fan of 1990 LB - some bottles were out of balance or a bit flat. The 1986 LB is really rocking the...

Speaking of 1979 Bordeaux, it has been one of my favorite vintages for a long time. Margaux, Palmer and Giscours (of course) were fabulous in 1979.
