Re: I'm with Richard on the 2004s

I guess the financial crisis is finally over. But first I'd like Jacques to weigh in on his feelings.

Re: I'm with Richard on the 2004s

I would go for those mags if I didn't have a few more bottles of this. One other anectdotal point about this wine. My wife sometimes gets the red wine headache which I guess is attributable to histamines generally and maybe the sulfites added to the wine, but she declared "all clear" after...

Re: I'm with Richard on the 2004s

Sorry, Chris, but the "house special" was not mine but the Laughing Ladies' and it was lousy wood and alcohol. It's the kind of wine routinely called "porty" but that's an insult to port. They have highly seasoned fare and sometimes they have a very rich and powerful wine that pa...

I'm with Richard on the 2004s

Last two nights we had a 2004 Ch. Picque Caillou. This no-name Graves reminded me of some burgs I've enjoyed. Seemed like the focus was on fruit. Pleasant and easy-drinking, but not in that Kenny-G style. Not that I'm competent to judge on Kenny-G, more power to him (and that non BWE Botta guy for t...

Re: In honor of Harry: Feb/March is Chateauneuf du Pape month

Not as easy as you think. I will not open an 03 Domaine La Milliere for this occasion because I know Harry thinks little of it. I have a few mags of the 03 Cuvee Baron Ch. Fortia but no one to drink them with. I may have to buy something.

Re: TN: 2006 Clos du Caillou CdR Quartz - 2007 CdR

I've had the 98, 99, 00, and 01 of various iterations of this domaine (cdr, cdr "garrigues" [rouge and blanc], cdrv, but not the quartz). I would just buy this instead of messing around with some cheap Parker picks from the region if I was in need of such wines. Thanks, Harry.

Approachable my ass. I've drunk more 04s than he did. You don't want to approach these babies with your ass because you will get did. You want to face them anteriorily, with full armour.

Re: Dining in Providence, Rhode Island

Jim, they don't call Providence the armpit of New England for nothing. That being said Joe Mazilli's has a nice veal chop. I'd recommend a BAROLO with that. I wanted to add if you mention the words "arraignment" or "indictment" there you will get a complimentary Tiramisu.

Re: TN: 1998 Clerc Milon

I don't see a lot of posting on left bank 98s. I'm not sure what is the ownership level even. I guess the thing to do was buy the right bank. I will say this though I have really enjoyed every left bank 98 I've had. This is mostly petite chateau but includes the Ducru and the Sociando Mallet. I have...

Re: TN: 2002 Château Lagrange St. Julien (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

I would think most of the 02 northern Medocs need a lot of time. I bought the Branaire, Clerc and S-M even though those wines were really tight on release. Tight, but tasty. There really wasn't an early drinking window. I think the Lafon Rochet drank the best of the bunch at the time. On the other h...

Re: TN 2003 le Clos du Caillou CdR Bouquet de Garrigues Blanc

This is even better as it approaches room temp. My thermostat is set to 62, btw. The bouquet now is much more like perfume. Maybe incense. Or jasmine tea coming in there. It also seems perfumey in the mouth. Sweet and lilting. It's a shame this guy died. This was one Parker get that I fully subscrib...

Re: TN: 2006 Domaine Leroy Bourgogne-Aligoté (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté)

I was going to say ...

I had an aligote once - by accident. It was "regularly-priced" and I bought it by mistake assuming it was chardonnay because of the big "Bourgogne" on the label. I found it an unfriendly wine.

TN 2003 le Clos du Caillou CdR Bouquet de Garrigues Blanc

Sipping on this now waiting for my gourmet mac and cheese with ham to come out of the oven. This is all fuel for tomorrow's Town Challenge race #3. Straight out of a 55 degree cellar. No refrigeration. It's got an appley, waxy nose. Oily, but not quite unctuous texture. Plenty of sweetness but this ...

I had it once. While there was some "there" there, I thought it tasted like they left out the grapes. I know someone else here also liked it well enough, as you did.

I agree. BWE is like the Wall Street Journal to erobotparker's USA Yesterday. Hey, maybe we should allow avatars, but they have to be in that black-and-white, pontillist style the WSJ uses? Oh yeah, no animated smilies, also. Oops.

TN Couple of Left Coast Pinots

Over the past, oh, nine months or so I've been working off a mixed-case sampler of entry-level (about $20) west-coast pinots in an attempt to find something enjoyable. Sadly most of these wines were pretty thin and disappointing. A couple have had ok sweetness but tasted flat, i.e., lacking in acidi...
