Thanks both - and for the Rosso tip! I'm getting addicted to good Rossos. Do find the Pertimali and the Paradiso di Manfredi if you can.
Is Asimov on the 04 Brunellos available? The Levenberg review is on the third or so page of the Poggione 04 reviews on cellartracker.

Poggione Brunello 04 - against the tide
Poggione Brunello 04 has, as I'm sure you all know, got ecstatic reviews from WA (Galloni - who seems usually very reliable?), TV comic Vaynerchuck etc. I bought a case at the (very fair!) release price of c£20 a bottle. First bottle a few months ago seemed not that stellar so last night I gave a se...

Re: TN: 2006 Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva
I know what Asimov means about modern Chianti Riservas - sorry to quote myself but for my money the £18 2006 Rosso di Montalcino from Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) is a wonderfully pure 100% Sangiovese, un-forced, Chambolle-like beauty, for those put off by new-wave dark monsters.

Re: Rosso / Brunello di Montalcino
Sorry to answer my own note, but am now certain that the Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Rosso 06 though 'pricier' at c£18 is the real baragin of these Rossos: the Lisini is more structured but more worked, more oaked and less refined and long. Tanzer I think has a note on the Pertimali 07 being 'weightl...

Rosso / Brunello di Montalcino
As mentioned in an earlier post re Chianti Classico, I owe it to this board to have sent me back to my love for Sangiovese. My current feeling is that a good Rosso di M is more to my taste than the equivalently priced CC or CC Riserva because purer (100% Sang) and more minerally than the CC. Having ...

I think the 04 and 06 Lagrange are both winners and great value - and I suspect the 04 is very close in quality to the PC 04 (the only vintage in which I have both wines - but I haven't compared them. I absolutely agree with Chris - was in my local Sainsbury's today and some new junk 09 AC Bordeaux at £6 was 14.5%. What? Rogov's (sp?) site says too many 09s tasted like California. Firsts are`c£10,000-£12,500 in bond. And at 20,000 cases output at Lafite that just makes me feel sick. What sort of ...

The 03 is one of only two 03s I kept (Barton the other): I don't think it will last that long - it's very good but the Barton has much more of a tannic spine.

I posted some months ago about China and Lynch - seemed like a joke but Cazes had launched it as a China-friendly re-name (Lan-Si-Pat or something) to massive success. Nice one Jim - actually i'm selling my case of 02 Duhart for serious money - China is now dictating prices: I gather Carruades and Duhart have been joined by Lynch, Beychevelle and even Talbot as China-friendly brands.

This has always been the second favourite 02 in my cellar after Poyferre and tonight's bottle is the best yet - maybe because the first tried in the wonderful DenkArt Bordeaux glass. Duhart in UK opened at £550 in bond and I say above was soon trading at £700. I was wrong. It was soon trading at £800. So that's pushing towards £100 a bottle for Duhart Milon 09. With the weak pound, the opening prices of 09s are so worrying: decent but not exactly shattering bourgeois Estephe's l...

From the UK and with sterling so weak the prices are already really scary: in the last few days I've had a flurry of emails urging Batailley on me as a great value at (final price) about £30 a bottle. Batailley! Insider tips at my end suggest that value will be with Moulin Riche, Petit Bocq, Citran....
