Welcome Matt, and good to have another Kiwi join the community (I think the Ozzies currently outnumber us).

Am curious as to where your sourcing your wines locally?
Cheers.

I bought 3 bottles of this upon release, but cant really remember why. The first 2 bottles had in 2016 didn't particularly impress and I had the last bottle tonight. The first couple glasses were PNP but I did also decant for a couple of hours. Beautiful bouquet of intense leather and hints of vanil...

2011 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett

Peach and lime. Couldn't detect any kerosene notes and I thought it lacked a bit of acidity. Much as I love aged German Riesling, I preferred this more in its youth.

Thanks for the notes, and glad to hear that you enjoyed them. I had two 2011's of these a few years ago and unfortunately did not like either of them. It was particularly disappointing given the price I paid for them ($180 NZ). I've learnt that I prefer my CDP's young, as with 10 years of aging or s...

The 2014 Giscours was the one to really “wow” me recently Jim, but I did also have a Calon Segur 14 a couple of years ago and was very impressed. I have 5 CS 14 tucked away and wish I had more.

Great tasting note as well.

Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses 2018.

I know very little about Loire reds, but summer has arrived early and I felt like something different and a little less heavy. Leather and cherries. Green pepper, some earthy tones - benefited from a bit of time in the fridge. Enjoyed this.

A prior poster asked about Giscours. I do not think it is classic, nor do I think it is “modern” in the pejorative way that some of us use that term as applied to wine, but it does fall into that third bucket that Marcs mentions. It is well made from a technical point of view, IMHO, and actually ta...

Is Giscours not worth being considered "classic"? Whilst I've had some variable experiences with Giscours in the past, I cant think of one that I would have described as being modern. Perhaps not "old school" but certainly classic?
