I subed the Lalande, for the Champers once I located it. The 89 TBA is still in though.

So how'd it go? I thought Toms (Haut Brion Lover) ideas on point. As it's spicy the 97 Ruffino D'Oro should be perfect.

In support of Fabios. They cooked the best Veal Chop I've ever had! If my steak is overcooked I've always sent it back with no problems whereever I've gone. How long does it take to cook a med rare steak, 7-10 min. I'll gladly wait to get my infrequent steak, cooked as I ordered it. The Wait Staff w...

Re: Some spectacular burgundies at Kittle House
Save some money and buy Paul Pernots Folatieres, Joseph Drouhin company buys eight barrels of it from Paul Pernot and slaps the Drouhin lable on it. Drouhin also buys Pernots Batard Montrachet and does the same thing. I've asked this to the Drouhins two years ago at Zachys after I had read it in Mat...

Patrick, I bought so much German wine from Hart Davis Hart in the past that they used to email me to give them a call for "First Shot" on private collections they'd get, before they would list them on the website. One time they called me from a private cellar of a collector in Germany. I b...

I've been buying Wine bid about 5-6 years. Got some great deals and some real losers. I'd say 20% Great deals, 20% very good, 40% good, and 20% bad. Bad as in shot! One of the worst things they do is send you dirty btls, I mean btls that can be wiped down clean as fast as it takes to put them in a s...

P.S. Also be carefull when buying Champagne from PJs. They keep some of the best btls up high ( you need a ladder to get them) , as anyone knows, heat rises and collects near the ceiling. At this time of the year the A.C. is on and you wouldn't notice, but it's a whole different story in the colder ...

Jim and All, be careful of buying any wine from PJs, or any other store, that has been released more than three years ago. Of course that does not mean re-releases or "Library Wines" that were stored at the Winery. The temps are too warm in my opinion in PJs and some other NYC stores I've ...

Stefan, The Burgundy threads are the reason I ever go to Squires board. I don't post, just read. That core group is the most knowledgeable group I've ever read. Stefan Fevre has toned down the oak quite a bit since the 04 Vintage. Lemon curd, other citrus notes and sea-shells are now more pronounced. I still love Dauvissats wines for purity. If you can find the 01 "La Forest" from Dauvissat, buy it. I've drunk 4 btls in the past six months and all...

Duhart is so classic Bordeaux. It's a "throwback" to times when aging 15 years was a pre-condition to purchasing it. Always punches way above its' weight in great vintages, it proudly wears the coat of arms of Pauillac.

By the By Ian, that was a down right comely lass you were trying to hide at the Zachys Burgundy Tasting. She seemed very comfortable and unassuming. A winning combination in a Lady. I hope she enjoyed the evening although it did get a bit crowded at times. I too am a fan of Drouhins "Clos Des M...

Danny, Indeed the 82 Lalande should have blown you away. Definately a bad btl. This said, I find Lalande one of the most inconsistant Chateau. I've had the 90 a half dozen times and each time its' been a poor showing. I wouldn't pay $20 for a btl. Then again the 96 is a knock-Out, and I think that o...

The only Carruades that impressed me was the 96. Then again, 96 Left Bank wines are top notch. I agree with most here that it's much better to drink a Sociando, Lagrange (St Julien), Duhart, etc than most second labels. These are some second lables that did make an excellent impression on me. 1982 &...

Thanks Jim. From time to time Zachys has sales that are truely rock bottom. The "Three btl" sales of Burgundy, Brunello, and Barolos were wines sold at cost (The Beau Sejour Bescot 2005 for $65 is an excellent example) to raise capital to buy wines that will sell in the $10-$30 market. Tha...

Jim, I still can taste the 89 Haut Brion you brought to Gios Home the night before the 03 Convention in NYC. It was amazing, and the most massive Haut Brion I've ever drank.
