Re: Questions about 2019 and 2020 Burgundy

I haven’t the faintest idea when to try red burgundy. For instance, I bought a few of the 2012 Pierre Bouree Charmes-Chambertin last year mostly on the strength of Gilman’s enthusiastic report. When can I start enjoying these? It’s now 10 years old but so many wines need much more time that that. F...

TN 2014 Lilian Ladouys; there's no there there

At a bistro in NYC off a wine list with exorbitant prices, the only semi-normal thing I could find for under $100 was the 2014 Lilian Ladouys. I remember reading some positive reviews here but I'm sorry to say this does not deliver the goods. To go with this, the three of us ordered a roast chicken,...

Re: SF Ed and MichaelP in SF

A BWE get together is always an opportunity to crack open the good stuff. Very heartwarming report Too bad about the mediocre Rayas but at 34 years of age, it may have earned the right to be cranky. When Rayas is on, for me, it is a wow, best wine ever, experience. Pichon Lalande was firing on all c...

Re: Two excellent red wines

I have ten half bottles of this swill in my cellar, 2005 Faiveley Mercury Les Mauvarennes, which I have found absolutely undrinkable over the years. It is valued at $23 on Cellartracker for a 750 so I'm guessing others are not enamored with it either. I may take a sip sometime soon to see if it has...

Re: Two excellent red wines

So count me as a Not A Fan Not of Faiveley which I think is heavy on structure, depth and all that intellectual stuff and short on charm Not of the 2005 vintage in burgundy which is taking way too long to be drinkable And not of Mercurey in particular, which is indeed a bargain, but I find them a li...

Re: And now for something completely different…underwhelming 82s

I have two remaining 1982 La Lagune. Saving them for BWE encounters. I have always disliked the 1982 Grand Puy Lacoste. I kept hearing it must be a bad bottle until I had one with some BWEers at Fabio long ago and I everyone loved it except me. Come to think of it, I have disliked every GPL I drank,...
