Re: TN: Couple of real cheapy '07 Cotes du Rhones
I also picked up a little 05 Bordeaux Superior. No Cali reds for this party. A little german kabinette and of course for the rest a cali chard. It should be fun from a wine POV, but most of my friends have little interest in wine.

Re: TN: Couple of real cheapy '07 Cotes du Rhones
Very timely thread David. I picked up a few 2007 Saint-Esprit, Cote-du-Rhone by Delas for my daughter engagement party today. Of course, I had to sample this bargain Rhone and it was very nice, no it was great, for the money. Rich, simple, and satisfying. I think the california palates that will att...

Glad all ended well. Beltramo's is a few miles south of K&L. An excellent store but always on the high side of price. It's customers tend to be Atherton and Menlo Park bluebloods.

Re: A very Quick TN-97LB and 96LR
I am looking forward to drinking the 96s. I looking back at the prices I paid in 2002 for these "older" bordeaux, I am still amazed at the p/q ratio. I don't think I will ever see more out-of-wack prices than 2002 or 2003. Looking toward to the Lafon in a few more years. It has been tasty ...

I shipped a few bottles of this in a mixed case to Hawaii this past May and loved it. It is the perfect beach/Hawaii wine; light, minerally, low alc and favorful. Oh did I mention reasonably priced.

Re: Is 2000 the greatest Bordeaux vintage ever?
Well what happened to 95, 03 or 05 or what about 08? :D My distain for the Bordeaux hype machine aside, I do like the 2000s and I have yet to regret my investment in the vintage. Yes it is a ripe year, but the ripeness does not seem to compromise the acidity or balance. It has fruit but not that blo...

Jim, I am sorry to read about your grind with board problems. I know that dealing with internet-relations is at times stressful. It appears people will say things over the net that we would never say in person.
I for one appreciate the effort that "management" does to keep this going.

I had the LP last night. No official notes, but I loved it. It has beautiful bright and lively acid that just lited-up my tastebuds. Medium bodied. Classic St. Julian nose. Tannins present but contained because of the wonderful balance. If I had to find sonething to criticize, I would say the mid-pa...

Katheryn Kennedy RIP
Katheryn Kennedy died this week. I was introduced to KK's Cabs at a few offlines hosted by Cabfan. In our blind tastings there were many heavy hitter ca. cabs, but her wines always placed in the top three. Full bodied but excellent structure were the hallmark of her style. Her vineyard was in the so...

With all this talk about Poujeaux, I saw one at the local megawine store and bought it. Color is a deep garnet, clearing at the rim. Nose is was deep dark fruit, slight herbs and later subtle floral hints. After 10 minutes, hints of cedar. Body, Medium body opening to a full bodied wine, medium full...

Well dinner was great and so were the wines. 1982 Leoville Barton. Just another wonderful 82. Color was a dark ruby reddening at the rim. No brown or mahogany. Remarkably youthful in color. Nose of dust, book leather, cedar the herbs. Not earthshaking but solid. Medium bodied and concentration. Some...

The 1999 Carruades was a little disappointing. Purple reddish rim ( hard to see in the restaurant). Nose subtle but sophisticated of cedar, herbs, delicate floral. It is a high pitched wine, medium body and lite concentration. Still very tannic Had a nice 35 second aftertaste. Prickle tannins. Maybe...

Re: 2000 Ch. Chateau Haut-Beausejour
Stefan, I was surprised by the enigmatic nature of the wine. My experience with most St Estephes is they take a long to lose their rough edges and they are rustic by nature. This wine had no hard edges. It was popped, poured and was forward. Tannins resolving yet it still possessed mostly primary ta...

Just for the under 40 crowd, as David said, Parker was relatively unknown before the 82 vintage. I think he had only be publishing 3 or 4 years before 82. On the West Coast out of San Francisco was another newsletter publisher Robert Finingan. I would have to say, he had a slightly bigger following ...

Re: Broadbent Sues Random House.
Well Alex as I recall the cry of many critics was the 1982s were too fat, not enough acid, overly concentrated, and they won't age. I remember a San Francisco critic who was very worried. I would imagine that Clive Coates was not a fan for the exact reason. Does any remember Clive's position. Sorry,...
