My life has been one of risk taking, Tim.

I have not thought that far, jckba.

My first thoughts are to get somebody legitimate like Alfred Tesseron to commit to a general timeframe and begin to work around that.

Re: Here's what I'm thinking about the big BWE Bdx v Cali faceoff

Yes but don't you think it would be tougher to get the French over during the usual April BWE convention season, way over on the left coast, rather than on the east coast of the US, in the mid-Atlantic, where Robt Parker, Tom Wheltle, and a ton of other infrastructure is already in place… Don't you ...

Re: Revisiting 2004 La Lagune...

This bottle, the third from a case, is much nicer than the first two. It definitely passes the 90 point threshold for me. Big and bruisin', not Margaux- or southern Haut Medoc-like, but a beauty nonetheless. 13%. 90 points.

Yes, definitely blind.
There are a million possibilities.
Remember, we could approach like 200 properties from each side.
All we need is 5-6 from each side to participate.

Here's what I'm thinking about the big BWE Bdx v Cali faceoff

Has there been a big Bordeaux versus California face-off since the legendary one in the 1970s? I don't know, and I don't care. It is time for a BWE-sanctioned event…. In 2017, I would like to round up 5-10 of the biggest names in Bordeaux and get them in the same room as 5-10 of the biggest names in...

Re: Revisiting 2004 La Lagune...

I'm finding myself liking this bottle. It is full-bodied, a borderline bruiser. It has a mean green streak to it but I like the mean green streak. It is not a typical La Lagne-Cantemerle-Margaux styled effort. But it has a ruggedness that I'm finding appealing. It seems just a bit less harsh than th...

Re: I mean, Jesus Christ, I'm only going to be 77 in 2035

I expect to be drinking wine into my late 70s and beyond, health permitting. Thus I will be purchasing some 2015s. The pricing seems decent. Not great, but not bad. Smith Haut Lafitte and Pape Clement and that crazy Tour St. Christophe are next on the horizon for me!

I mean, come on. Myself, I'm not going crazy, but I'm going to buy me some 2015s….

Giscours
SHL
Pape Clement

Coutet
d'Issan
Gazin
Rausan Segla

Dinner with Michael P in Manhattan

We dined last night at Piccolo Fiore, which was just coincidentally recommended by one of Michael's friends. If I'm not mistaken BWE has had some dinners there. They waived their $25 corkage fee for us. Michael brought a 1967 Barolo, I don't think it even had the producer's name on it. It was intere...

2005 Haut Bergey: A nice $20-something Bordeaux….

This is not a profound wine but it is lovely. It is very distinctively Pessac. It will never be La Mission, but these wines are going for $20-35 and they are well-crafted, "pure", smoky, with black cherries, under control alcohol levels, 10-20 year age-worthiness. They are a slight notch b...
