Re: How was 2018 and 2019 for white Burgundy?
You may have seen this already, but just in case: https://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3253039#p3253039 I’ve not had any 2019’s yet, but the 2018’s I’ve had generally have been ripe to very ripe, showing much more Bartlett pear and even tropical notes than I prefer. But I have tried ...

Re: In the footsteps of Miles and Jack
Great stuff, Jacques. Along with chewing gum and some merlot, I fully expected a tasting note from Miles’ favorite dump bucket! I squeezed in a visit myself to a Californian winery last week after a hike in a majestic old growth redwood forest in Mendocino, at Ridge Lytton Springs while in Sonoma wi...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
An old fashioned Rioja drinking at peak, the 1995 Riojanas Monte Real Reserva . A flat out fantastic bouquet much like a mature claret except for the top note of sweet American oak which makes it smell of lavender and cherries. The palate is lighter and brighter, like a Pinot, but with terrific frui...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I’ve progressively worked my way up the glassware ladder — Crate and Barrel, Reidel, Schott Zwiesel, Reidel Somm Series, Gabriel Glas, Gabriel Glas Gold — eventually settling on Zaltos (which are also pretty darn weightless and attractive) as my tip-top stem (never tried a Sensory). Then Berserker D...

Yeah, I’ve almost never come across it and Parker panned it when he even bothered to write about it, calling it perhaps the worst 3rd growth. I have a half of the 05 I think, I might look for it.

With this many attendees, maybe a Thursday night might be added to the agenda? I for one would be interested (I’ve always really enjoyed the Thursday nights at Conventions), but we of course need local buy-in. Consider me in for this. A delightful half bottle of the 2012 SI Momtazi sitting on the front porch on a truly beautiful day in Colorado. We’ve had an epic amount of precipitation so far in 2021 (by Colorado standards) and everything is so green and lush.

2017 Frog’s Leap Napa Cab , popped ITNOS after lots of buzz. Picked up in the low $40’s, my first try with this producer and I must say, I like! Lots of pure black raspberry fruit woven with a sappy acids and vinousness. Nice cranberry finish. Nothing heavy or overly polished here. In many respects...

A tasty bottle of the Ruinart BdB NV. Really good stuff, but the price has gone up so much at this address that I think there’s plenty of cheaper bubbly out there that I like just as much.

I had a 90 Sociando blind recently — a wine I’ve had at least a dozen times before — and I swore it was an 89 Loire cab franc like the Couly-Dutheil Clos de l'Olive.

I can’t wait for the 1995 horizontals we will surely have in 2025 when these hit 30 years. If they ain’t great then, they’ll never be (and some came to this conclusion when these were 15, 20 and now 25 years old).

A terrific bottle of the 1990 Lagrange tonight, clearly in my book the best ever wine from this chateau.
