Re: The $29.00 2002 Calon Segur has been uncorked….

An awesome deal on a quintessential Jim How wine. Glad it is everything you expected. But... what is this? The label says $29.99? What kind of DC shenanigans is this? What if Trump finds out about this... A Democratic ex-mayor criminal defendant lawyer from Maine comes to DC and gets a <wink, wink> ...

Thanks for the note on the 2006 Beaucastel Nic. One of the longest-lived CdP, I find they typically need 10 years to start drinking well. Sounds like this one is ready to go. I may open one soon but am still working on my 1995-2000s.

Loved Al Franken's book.
Never laughed out loud at Jon Stewart though I liked his stuff OK.
Colbert could usually get me to LOL when he was on Stewart's show.
Now I like Samantha Bee when I remember to watch.

In the "only in today's social media world" category: Someone has been posting on Wine Berserkers the last few days claiming to be a 22 year old ex-girlfriend of Fox'. Says she only dated him for his money, didn't know about embezzlement until she read about it recently online.

Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy

John Fox plead guilty to one count of fraud in return for a maximum sentence of 6 1/2 years in prison.

The judge called his operation a Ponzi scheme running from 2010-2015. Fox also admitted that he began cheating customers in 1993 or 1994.

Details here.

I agree with Jacques that on a macro level the estate tax means almost nothing, other than a sound bite/rallying point for those generally opposed to taxes. But I also agree with Scott that on a micro level there are people who are hurt by the estate tax. I don't know if it's the only or main reason...

A gift bottle of 2002 Bollinger RD. Plan to take it to Chicago to open with friends this fall.

As far as a bottle of Bordeaux that was a pleasant surprise, I'll go with the 2012 Ch du Tertre that I Howed at the urging of Danny and our BD this spring.

Made the NPR news this evening. The Donald's ass-Trumpet continues to blow further and further out of tune with reality. Whether it's out of tune with the majority of the electorate is the question that worries me. A lot can happen in 3 months - an eternity in politics - and I shudder to think of wh...

A Pomerol this time... 2000 Ch. Nenin : Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Dark red core, lightening at rim. Dark fruits, cedar/tobacco, strong note of iodine on the nose. Full-bodied with dark ripe fruit, good balance, still tannic on the finish. The next day the iodine note is replaced...

Biggest surprise for me was O'Malley. He's a lightweight but gave a better speech than I thought he had in him.
Bloomberg and Biden were great.
Kaine was a disappointment.
Obama built to a nice crescendo and had some great lines and moments but he went on too long and lost his momentum.
