Re: Bordeaux 2020 Southwold Tasting at FarrVintners
If I had to back one of these horses, it would be 2020 not 2019 - you heard it here first - just like for 2016 Bdx: the 2015 vs 2016 vintages - the latter vintage will reign supreme and eventually overtake the 2016 mantle as the best ever Bdx vintage - you heard it it here first - the 2020s will tur...

Re: Whole Lotta Lafite
Just for fun here are my favourite FGs or FG equivalents from each vintage starting in 2010, with the caveat I have not tasted nearly as many as Stu and have lots of gaps 2010: Margaux - not sure how this can be bettered but not tried Latour - run up Mouton 2009: Mouton, runner up Lafite, but again ...

Re: Whole Lotta Lafite
Thanks for the excellent notes Stuart, you don’t seem to have much luck with Lafite. When we did a much more modest Lafite vertical in 2018 we got lucky - every wine was on top form and the distinctive theme was the poise and sophistication of theses wines’ mid-palates, which is why for me it is fir...

That is a great line up. 1980 was a very under-rated vintage in burgundy especially for reds.

That was too good a price not to bite stefan. And it was from Berry Brothers too, wine merchants for HRH and the Royal Family. Jim I was thinking about moving some 2009s up the drinking queue. I was looking through my storage inventory tonight and saw I have a case of Clerc Milon 2009, which piqued ...

Are the prices coming down/fair Jim? You mentioned that they are not ‘giving away’ the 2021s, implicitly an impediment to buying them. I didn’t buy any 2021s and have only a few 2017s, picked up when discounted. I have been waiting quite patiently for the price of 2017s to fall and I also picked up ...

Re: 05 La Tour Blanche, 17 Langoa Barton, 00 Beychevelle
Thanks for the notes Alex. I am a fan of 2000 Beychevelle but my case has been a bit up and down. At its best it is revelatory. Interesting to read you effusive praise of the 17 Langoa. I was so impressed by its 17 Leoville sibling that I immediately purchased a case. That was just over a year ago. ...

Re: 2023 BORDEAUX WINE ENTHUSIASTS WILLIAM "STEFAN" JOHNSON WINE OF THE YEAR: 2019 CHATEAU MONTROSE
Drank one of my new 2019 Montrose that I bought yesterday, it was very disjointed, it has officially gone into hibernation stage. Hold off drinking it for at least five years. I thought it was a bit like that when we tried it in March here in London. I don’t think any of the 2019s showed particular...

The ‘cash is trash’ mantra applied when the Fed held rates at near zero. But now it looks like the Fed will start cutting rates in March. Trump said he will fire Fed Chair Powell on day one if he wins, so Biden and the White House seem to be colluding with the Fed to juice the economy this year to t...

I was a bit late compiling my top 100 wines for the year as I usually do between Christmas and New Year. It was such a bumper year that I ended up compiling a list of my top 200.
This is 200 to 100 on the list, and all these wines scored 93 points

A logical and worthy choice Jim - reading your piece I would say - rightly - more about Ch. Montrose than the 2019 vintage - the 2016 and 2020 Montroses are epic wines too - though I would concede that it would be odd not to have a 2019 to win this prestigious accolade.

Good choices for Christmas Day stefan. That vintage of Comtessa can be variable but at least the Lafite showed its class.

My vote would be for DDC 2020 - so I second JC’s suggestion.
I hope it is not a 2019 - I thought tasting those 2019s in London was a waste of time - they are big monolithic and a bit fuzzy right now - the 2020s have a lot more focus than the 2019s
