Re: The 2005 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin has been uncorked....

BH places both 2009 and 2010 vintages of the Ursules in the "sweet spot. Outstanding!" Category with a 92 on the 2009 and a 91-93 on the 2010. He says the 09 seems more like an 08 in typicity (not as ripe or plush, with more acidity); both have noticible wood is better integrated than Jado...

Ken - thanks for your note on the 2005 Ampelia. I've gone through 11 bottles of this and am saving the last for maybe 5 years hence. This never shut down or went into an awkward stage.....I agree, a good value and a nice wine.

Jim - Burghound did not review the Fixin, but did the Fixin Fondeman in 2009 and 2010. My lack of technical prowess at cutting and pasting on a Nook will result in some gross summarizing; the scores are in the same range as 2005's review of the Fixin (87 - 89), he makes some comments about the inclu...

This is a very good wine, but not showing its best yet. This was enjoyed with steak at a restaurant (Aureole) that had an interesting plexiglass wine storage tower, with cables on each side, and a winch (I suppose that is spelled with an "i", not an "e") that lifts a leather clad...

Great article and nice picture on your website. It is nice to see high end producers like Angelus and Troplong Mondot still pour at the UGC events....the 2005 was stunning at UGC, and I ended up buying several cases. Glad to see it coming around, but based on how shrouded in baby fat it was in 2007,...

I ordered a few of these (2010/2011s with significant discounts to most retailer prices) as well. Both vintages are flat out overpriced for this market, and I'm guessing that PC secured sourcing from a negociant either wanting cash or testing the marketplace at lower pricing. The article implies the...

Like high end wine, the margin on running shoes is phenomonal. Production cost is $5-10 a pair. While Asics are very popular, it seems going through a fitting can be worthwhile if you run a lot..... Old shoes can get stinky, just like old wine.

I'm trying to keep under the boycott exemption of under $35 per bottle :D

2010 La Patache

The price increases on these 2010s are a killer. The 2010 La Patache reminded me of the 2009 in many ways, but the price had increased 20%, and this was more red fruit and food friendly with lively acidity, and more Bordeaux-like in flavor profile than the 2009. This would be an okay wine to use at ...

The en primeur releases are near drawing to a close, and I have not purchased a single bottle. I found the 2004 Fonbel outstanding when it was young. The last few bottles of a case were consumed in 2010, and weren't quite as good as those consumed in the 3-5 years range after vintage. One of the prominent tastes was clay, which might not sound enticing but I thought it was quite good.
