Re: 2016 Sociando Mallet and other musings

Biden in Maine, did you get a chance to see him? Sociando is really opening up now. The richness has continue to develop, graphite, black fruits, and a hint of cedar in the back. This is reminding me of the amazing 1996 Sociando. Really good wine (RFG as I tell my friends), time will tell if it can ...

Re: 2016 Sociando Mallet and other musings

Those chicken thighs on the slow cook are super crispy and the lamb chops are ready roll. Grilled some potato slices along with corn on the cob (hello summer!). Sociando is opening up, much richer than earlier. Red fruit is really coming thru along with some forest floor. Amazing that in the meantim...

2016 Sociando Mallet and other musings

2016 Sociando Popped and poured. Super tight - bit of cedar on the nose and red fruit. Have a few deboned chicken thighs on the grill low and slow. Couple lamb chops for the red meat eaters in the wings. Not sure what’s happening in the capital but we’ve got a mentally challenged President, a leader...

Re: 2000 Cos Estounel

It may very well be Marc, I was surprised at the level of tannin still remaining given the other 2000 chateau I’ve drunk through. After about a hour after decanting the tannins really came to life so I did the mouthwash test — I had to shave my tongue after that. 😛

2000 Cos Estounel

2000 Cos Estournel - Opened an hour, then decanted another hour. No hint of bricking for a wine of 23 yrs old. Cedar, lead pencil, graphite, minerals and blue fruits on the nose. Tannins are well integrated but still quite present. Really drinking well and will continue for a long while. No rush to ...

Great deals all around, can’t go wrong with LB, Ducru or PLL! I have a few 95/96 PLLs I’ve been sitting on - but haven’t had one in at least a Blanquito.

Jim, I agree with Blanquito, he lists all the sites - but I’d add Trevi fountain. Trevi can be quite crowded during the day, if you’re an early riser I’d recommend heading over early in the morning 6/6:30 AM would be a great time to go. It won’t be crowded and you’ll mostly have the entire area to y...

I’m probably more tolerant than most on the alcohol, and don’t get too much heat until the alcohol content passes 15%. With where global warming is headed, we’re all in trouble as I fear 15+ will become the norm as warmer than historical temps take hold driving up the sugar levels and subsequently t...

Definitely a tough one, I'm closer to Ognik on Clerc/d'armailhac 1. Pontet Canet – they’ve been making arguably 1st growth wine for the last 15 yrs, I think edges out LB. 2. Lynch Bages – one of my favs 3. Grand Puy Lacoste 4. Haut Batailley – perhaps a bit controversial, but a long time fav of mine...

5. Brane-Cantenac
6. D'Issan
7. Du Tertre

8. Malescot
9. Cantemerle
10. La Lagune (apologies Bill!)
