Unfortunately, it looks like I have done the above – apologies as that wasn’t my intent. It was simply to state that the 2016 impressed at a recent tasting.

Re: 2016 Lilian Ladouys-This is a QPR!
LL is for me, consistently a great QPR (the 09 and 10 were absolute steals). That said, I popped open a 2016 over the weekend and whilst enjoyable and still very much in the QPR category, I must admit, I have had other similarly priced wines recently which impressed me more (e.g. Haut Brisson and Ch...

Re: The fraud that is Grand Puy Lacoste.
I went to the UGC 2016 tasting and I bought only 4 chateaux after tasting through so many 2016s: Langoa Barton Branaire Ducru Sociando Mallet and GPL All are outstanding values. Yes, the Langoa Barton certainly offers great value. My other standouts were Brane-Cantenac & Domaine De Chevalier, w...

He said the following (paraphrasing): For many years, GPL has underperformed its terroir. Since the daughter has taken over, it has achieved the greatness of its terroir. Hi Jim, thanks for the above, an interesting observation. My only other recent experience of GPL was with a 2006 – but I opened ...

Re: The fraud that is Grand Puy Lacoste.
Hope I haven't (re)opened a can of worms by posting in this thread, but I went to a 2016 Bordeaux Tasting last night and was very impressed by the GPL. The daughter of the estate, (Emeline Borie I believe) was behind the stand and was pleasant, informative and a great ambassador for their wines (som...

Just picked up 2 x Chateau Giscours 2014 at auction.
No bargain I'm afraid, but I'm liking these 2014s.

[quote="Racer Chris"] I already drank the Le Marquis. It was my first and only one. The first night it was a bit sharp and the oak was obvious. The rest of the bottle on night two was great. I will definitely buy more if I find it at favorable pricing. quote] They do reward cellaring IMO. ...

Mission accomplished. A case of wine purchased at each of two (Hampton N & Hampton S) New Hampshire Liquor stores this weekend. Not only that, Mary accompanied me in the store and said practically nothing negative the whole time. :) 2 NV Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Réserve 2 2016 Château Ca...

Not sure if this helps or not (as you're after notes for the 16) but I tried the 2015 at a tasting a couple of years ago and was impressed enough to buy some and tuck away.

Re: Christmas and New Year wines
Penfolds Grange 1996 - a colossus. I hate to use this word but it is awesome - in the true meaning of the word. Such power it could blow away whole cities. But it has a finessed side to it as well, and has trademark pure Grange Barossa fruit. Huge fun to drink now it will last several decades: 14% ...

Certainly not a bargain, in fact I was robbed really, but the festive spirit made me do it.
2 x La Lagune, $134 (NZ) each. Ouch... My only comfort is the 2011 I had recently was simply beautiful.

Last year I had the 2008 version, and I find it similar to your experience, marcs. With all the hype for the 2015 version, I got 2 splits to check the billing. But I suspect, they need to be drunk young in comparison to its commune brethren... I had my 2 x 2008's both within the last couple of year...

Re: 2009 Chateau Cantemerle
Is that comment based on the 2015 and 2016 vintages of Lanessan? That's when Bouard became involved with his estate. Haut Bergey and Poujeaux (since its sale to Cuvelier in 2008) are pretty modern to me. No, the 2014 - but which did change significantly over time and did a complete 180. I gave a bo...

I had the 2011 La Lagune just the other week and it was sensational! Unfortunately, it is no longer a QPR in NZ – there is one bottle of the 2016 left over here, selling for $140! Yikes!Blanquito wrote:My top 5 QPR in Bordeaux:

Re: 2009 Chateau Cantemerle
Lanessan seems to be a popular BWE QPR, but I must admit, I’m obviously bit of an outlier (or at the very least ‘undecided’) with this one. I tried the 2014 and liked it enough to pop some in the cellar - but my thing with Lanessan is that upon opening, it is oddly very ‘new world’ to me and takes q...

Snapped up a couple of these at auction this week. They weren't a 'bargain' necessarily but seemed a fair price, $65 (NZ), so what's that $40 (US)? Popped one open and these are drinking beautifully right now.

Poujeaux could be hit or miss....i remember i grabbed a few bottles of the 2000 and 2001 but thought both were somewhat thin and not particularly memorable. The 2009, however was in fact a very good wine. Perhaps the weather could have done magic there so need to revisit this estate. La Vieille Cur...

Couldn't resist and bought some more 2016 Château Poujeaux (a great QPR IMO). I also bought a bottle of the 2016 Château La Vieille Cure and tried it last night to see if I wanted to add any to the cellar. I have to say though (and having never tried this before) that this is not my style of wine at...

Am reading an interesting book at the moment “Vino business : the cloudy world of French wine” by Isabelle Saporta. As the name suggests, the book delves into the murky world of French wine and its politics. One of the chapters looks at the recent reclassification of St-Emilion wines and states that...

Thanks for the TNs - am finishing a bottle of the Picque Caillou Pessac-Leognan 2008 as I type. I didnt particularly enjoy it on day one (too thin despite a lovely nose of casis, leather and licorice). Have enjoyed it much more on day 2 though. The tannins became more integrated and the palate quite...
