Re: 1996 Leoville-Barton

Nice, you've tempted me to open one of these to go with watching the football games today. Fifteen years ago, the 1996 took best Leoville Barton in a NYC BWE Leovilles dinner, but I don't recall if the 1989 or 1990 were in the mix that night. Looks like a nice WB as well. I gave up on them as the ri...

Spicer cones out with bald-faced lies in the very first press "briefing" (no questions allowed). When called on it on MTP, Kelly Ann CONway denies they are lies, saying they are "alternative facts." How about an alternative POTUS? That I could get behind. The press is finally sta...

Re: President Trump

What bothers me most about about the Clintons is their arrogance and perception of being above the law. They start by bending the rules, then they attack, deny, and obfuscate and finally they offer a half hearted apology. This was true with Bill's philandering, with Hillary's emails, and even with ...

Re: President Trump

Again, if these were all such beloved GOP core principles, why have they not been implemented anywhere in Red State Land? Because they were proposed by Obama, and the Republicans demonized him. Especially in Red Star Land. It's that simple. We don't even need to go into the reasons they demonized h...

Arv, it really was simpler than all that. It was put forth by Obama. A democrat. And a black man. Didn't matter that it was based on Republican policy proposals (not just Romney's MA plan). Too much for many of the right wing zealots to accept, either in Congress or in the States. There was zero wil...

Jacques and Arv, there was more than one factor in this election. Your contention that it was all due to Clinton's flaws is just as speculative. It's simply not realistic to say that Comey's behavior was not a factor. Would it have made a difference if Clinton was a better candidate? If she had a be...

It will be interesting to see if Congress refuses to approve Trump's appointees in the absence of the required paperwork. This goes beyond rhetoric. It's the first real test of power between them. Congress is not typically keen on ceding power to Presidents, even when they are of the same party.

I like the 1986s and think they've been open for 5 years or more depending on the wine. The Cordier stable have been favorites. Then again, I'm a tannin pig, so I understand the "not for crossover" comments.

Mouton may still need more time, but it's been 10 years since I've had it.

Wonderful selection Patrick. Not all vintages of LaLas are created equal. My first were the 1988s and they made a lasting impression. Haven't had one live up to that ideal since, but I haven't been willing to pay the tariff on more recent top vintages.
