Another vote for 2012 Conseillante here. Great wine, great house, recent vintage, has some special BWE connections. Plus I've got some in the cellar thanks to Ian and the BWEnablers.

Re: Shipping
I'm lucky that I'm past the acquisition phase. Fortunately I have very little outstanding with retailers who would have to ship to me. Four bottles in CA and one in NY. I'll be disappointed if I have to take refunds but it's not a big deal. But on a larger scale this could be a significant inconveni...

Monbousquet is like a good-value fruit forward Napa cab. Cocktail wine describes it well. I like it, but I tend to drink them young. For me, that's at 10-15 years. Insignia and Eisele (Phelps then Araujo versions) were among my Napa favorites before they got silly expensive. I remember loading up on...

A minor pet peeve of mine is that Eric uses mean rather than median as the default display for community scores on CT. You can get the median with a couple of clicks. I guess the typical user understands mean better but it does allow outliers to distort. Not that 1.7 points means anything, or that a...

Very true, Stefan. Sane Nic would never fly around the world in a reindeer-powered sled Xmas eve dropping down chimneys with a bag full of toys. Only Saint Nic would do that. Danny, US$60 for that wine conjures memories of Crazy Eddy on TV in NYC screaming about "Insane!" prices on electro...

Have the 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2012. Love the 2000 and 2004. The 2000 is oakier than the 2004 but it's receding/integrating. The 2005 is ok but hoping the oak mellows out in a few more years. Seen it happen with oakier stuff than this if given long enough, but only time will tell. Haven't tried the 2...

Not hate for Spatlese, I do love them. But they are just too sweet (even if well balanced) to have regularly. Didn't realize it until I had a few too many.

Interesting read. I have two issues with this analysis: It's too focused on investment value. I like a good deal, but I buy (bought) Bordeaux for future enjoyment, not future value. But to be fair, he does discuss the vintage's drinking characteristics. While exchange rates may allow the buyer to ac...

Very interesting report Alex. Is your use of "exotic" to describe the Nyetimber sparkler based on its taste or rarity? Pairing Sauternes with a chestnut dessert sounds really intriguing. I'm imagining the interplay between the chestnut's rich sweetness and the wine's acidity. How did that ...

Fun game. Two come to mind: California Cabernet does not turn into Bordeaux with age. Took about 15 years to figure this out. I liked them fine young, but they weren't Bordeaux. I bought way more than necessary considering I didn't need to age them much. "You'll live as long as you have bottles...

Our Turkey-day warmup was a 1998 Clinet. Beautiful wine, showing some beginning tertiary complexity and plenty of fruit, but surprisingly tannic on the back end for an 18-year-old. Excellent now and with even better days ahead.

I thought that the 1900 Margaux was liberated from the secret cellar of another François as part of a Black Op carried out in the vicinity of Paris last spring. James Comey has the emails that prove it, but uncharacteristically for him, he's not talking.

Nic, that is a wise child-rearing approach on many levels beyond wine. The hard part comes when it is time to accept that their passion has taken them in a different direction than you would have chosen for them. You are on the right path. Stay true.

Jim, I need to lose weight. And an extra glass of wine at night, while not that many more calories in and of itself, inevitably leads to another round of refrigerator/pantry grazing late at night. So my consumption has decreased.

Sounds like you shouldn't move, David. Selling wine is nearly as big a pain as moving it. Finding the right place to move to may take long enough to seriously deplete the cellar. No, this is not about politics. Or my health.
