Re: Lady but I just like Ridge

Just checked the label. 14.7% ABV. 76% Zinfandel. MAN! Draper knows how you blend. Excellent stuff. Went fantastic with the fourth day Lamb Stew. (Local lamb BTW.)

Lady but I just like Ridge

Current wine a 2001 Ridge Lytton Springs. Love they're approach to a blend, as these may be mostly 'Zinfandel' but are blends. And if you remember, I love blends. Always smooth even if labeled 14.5% ABV (may be higher...or lower, probably higher if anything). Always nice fruits with zip. I generally...

Re: My Top Twenty Favorite Moments from the "Old" BWE

I remember Arv working on Wall Street and living near the WTC and being REALLY PISSED OFF about 9\11.

Been so long I could be wrong.

But No One can forget that photo of Nick and the Whoopie Pie! I think I literally almost ROFL. Didn't Jim make some excuse about them?

OK, you got me. Virtual Life Tasting?

That just posting starting at a specified hour or some messaging thing. I mean, I got both 1995 and 1996 (and 1998\1999\2001 GPL, heck, might have 2000).

Anyone remember Yacochuya

Or something like that. A Michael Rolland South America wine, Argentina methinks. First vintage was 1999. The Bob gave it 9x points or something. I bought 4 of these so the price must have been below $50. Had two left in the cellar last night and popped one. I remember in the past that they were dam...

corr,

Glad you like it. It was once a decent wine and very affordable.

I honestly just don't buy any Australian anymore.None. Not for 6 years or more.

Re: TN: 2006 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet (Australia, South Eastern)

Jim,

That's what it was 'Back In The Day'. A decent wine, guessing most here would give it mid 80 points. A good wine but nothing great. It went into Bad Wine teritory, glad to see it's coming back to decent agin.l

$10 is the new $5.

Re: TN: 2006 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet (Australia, South Eastern)

OMG!

This was one of my first forays into 'wine'. Koonunga Hill. Used to get it for like $5 per. Back 'In The Day.' Then SouthCorp bought out Penfold and just about everything went into the toilet.

I haven't bought this since 1998 vintage or so. Did SouthCorp revive it?

Re: TN: 1999 Château Lynch-Bages (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

I popped a 1998 Lynch-Bages a week or two ago. It was great, Huge redberry fruits wafting up from the glass. Excellent with the lamb stew I made. Left a little than two glasses for the next day. Next day it was dead. Some fruit but more acid than fruit or backbone. Drinkable but a downturn from the ...

DavidG,

Could be the brightness on my screen or just genetics or video cards, but yes, far more pink than purple.

I just think if there is a way to allow personalization then allow it.

I'm much more in the 'gray' zone than the 'blank or white' zone.

If not, I can cope.

Re: Chateau Latour 2005 for $27 anyone?

I don't know if it's the same supplier but years ago (maybe the 2000 vintage where this began?) these 'third wine' grapes where bought in. Yeah, bought a couple of these at around 20 bucks then (2002 or 2003). Didn't care for them at the time as they were drying and tannic with little if any fruit a...

Re: Do rhones really cut it?

"What I sometimes have trouble getting my arms around, including with this 14% effort, are the alcohol levels." Sadly, that is the experience with many previously nice wines. It's a fad. Exactly. Many times 14.5+ alcohol. YEECH! Sometimes this isn't Good. Riper, more sugary grapes, sometim...

Re: Clearing out forum before launch

I just like to ability to change. I like earth colors, browns and greens and such. My default background for text is a green shade with black text, MUCH easier on my eyes than brilliant white background.

Just wondering. If it's an option you should offer it. Opinion.

Re: Do rhones really cut it?

I've found many CdP's MOST EXCELLENT recently, the ones I've popped. Gonna hold for a few more years. These were the 1998 vintage. They do indeed 'Cut It'. Enormous complexity and smoothness but with grip. Kinda skittish to pop any Cote Rotie now. Now the village stuff, Orange, Gigondas, Vayquers, e...

Re: Avatars

Avatars can be good in that you can recognize a poster. Avatars are bad in that they are yet more useless bytes (or bits, depends on how you think) than is necessary. I've seen avatars that made me think "What where you thinking" to "GAWD! If I have to look at another babys' face I'll...
