The other night JB was requested by mrs vino for happy hour listening. We hadn't played anything by him in at least a year. The next morning, I read he had died the night before. Cosmic, IMHO. RIP

We decided to avoid much travel this summer due to everyone else traveling so will head off to the Berkshires for 10 relaxing days on scenic Goose Pond. Our niece works at Jacob's Pillow (premier dance performance space) and so will also enjoy spending time with her as well. Selecting some bottles f...

We've been exploring the wines from Verdicchio. Evidently the right bankers of the Esino river region are considered superior over the other side. I just purchased a case of Zaccagnini Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico 2021 from Calvert Woodley. B-21 in Florida has some selections as well. U...

Another 2000 SM last night and it may have been the best bottle yet-decanted through a filter and it sat for an hour or so. A really elegant wine with no green at all; I can't think of another Bordeaux with this most bottle variation in one vintage. Also a 2009 Cantermerle-better than I expected and...

Jeff's comment about lack of selection in 82 made me wonder when this process became more routine? Or was it due to the "massive harvest"?

Interesting post and thank you Ian. Father Stefan shared an 82 LL at a dinner several years ago. It was in a good place then. I've had the 82 Montrose several times, none of the bottles were what I would expect from a second growth in this great vintage. Compared to an 82 LLC for example. I have one...

As my wife said to a friend who works at an organization called Galvanize Action (look them up), we are doing a happy dance here in Michigan. Not only did Dem incumbents win all the major state races, but they now control both houses of the legislature - for the first time since the mid-1980s. Cred...
