Re: How would we judge 1982 Bordeaux in the market today

As a relatively recent collecter and taster of Bdx compared to many of you, my experience with 82 is limited, but of the bottles I’ve had in the past 3-4 years, which included many well regarded estates but no first growths, I have found them to be less pleasurable as the comparable 86’s. Maybe I ne...

Re: "Super-expensive" wines -- are any worth it?

I have complex thoughts on this. My experience is that there are no great wines, just great bottles. A 1986 Gruaud Larose is perhaps the greatest Bordeaux experience. Have had a few bottles since, all of which were good but none quite as mesmerizing. It was a $100 bottle two years ago but weirdly th...

Rechargeables never worked for me - my days are too long. They poop out after 9-12h so if I put them on in the morning, they’d crap out before I even got home from work. Dealing with the little annoying batteries is all part of the fun of HA. Lots of folks say “I’m only going to use them in Setting ...

Bobby - you would have loved it. That 2000 Figeac blind to start the night was right out of the Loire. 2000 Sociando was great. And Friday night had 1989 and 1997 Couly-Dutheuil, 1990 Raffault, and a bunch of good N Rhône’s. Come up from Orlando for the next one!

Great times! Highlights for me for white: 06 Batard Montrachet Valentini trebbiano 08 Cristal Of the reds, found all of the Burgs less than stellar, though the 2010 Jadot seemed the most open. Wines of the night for me were: 2000 Sorrel Le Greal 2000 Monte Bello 1990 Raffault 1989 Jaboulet Looking f...

Re: Wine threads for DWE DC 2020 -- what are you bringing?

No clue what I’m bring Friday - I prefer to surprise everyone and myself, but I would probably bank on some Burg and maybe a Jacquesson in Mag.

Saturday still have to see what I can dig up from storage but definitely planning on a 3L of 1986 Pichon Lalande and a few others.

Looking forward to it!

I may have a couple (Kat and Robert) that may be able to make it. They would come either Fri or Sat but not both and depends on babysitting availability. Will pin them down in next day or two if I can.

Re: Checking in on the 1986 Bordeaux vintage

Great notes - thanks! I came of age way too late to buy 80’s Bordeaux before they were stupidly priced, but had a 1986 Gruaud Larose maybe a year ago that made me want more, and as I’ve avoided the price gouging and ‘are-these-OTH’ concerns with the 82’s, there have been some opportunities to grab a...

TN: 62 Lafite, 74 Haut Brion, 88 Leoville Barton, etc

Preface: our house is a disgrace, after multiple major leaks, with a small plywood temp kitchen, and the rest of the house littered with everything that should be stored in the basement while the basement is gearing up to be renovated.
