Re: TN: 2007 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée La Cote Ronde

Harry, normally I'd agree and find oak to not be good for C9s, but in 07 the fruit is so ripe that it probably needs some to tame it. 07 fruit seems so heavily concentrated that it verges on the sickly sweet unless it was picked incredibly early which in the search for hWSRN points most people don't...

Re: TN: Ceretto Tasting Part II the Barolos

Fair enough, the highs of 05 won't be higher than 04 but 06 might get outstripped by thr up start 05. Certainly a fascinating trilogy of vintages to look at again in 20 odd years.

Rocche is also far more approachable on the whole than Brunate, which reflects in your scores... Not that I'm complaining, I tend to prefer lighter vintages of Rocche than big vintages of Brunate... Although some Brunate have been unforgettable even in their youth.

Re: TN: Ceretto Tasting Part II the Barolos

ClEarly you like fresher tasting Nebbiolo. Although I find Ceretto very modern, but in a good way, they have never been my favourites, and I have always felt there was something lacking. I definately think that 01, and 05 are the most approchoachable vintages right now, and 05 Barolo is better than ...

Re: TN: Ceretto Tasting Part I the Barbarescos

To be honest, all too young but your points reflect my opinions on the vintages as a whole when drinking at the moment. Drinking them in Piemonte when your mouth is covered in tannin is very different from turning up to a tasting as well, although I wouldnt be surprised if the 05 was the freshest fe...

A gift of two bottles from a friend for our wedding along with a bottle of 2000 Mouton (to be kept another 15 years),the first bottle I didn't take too much notice of as we were drinking lots of different things at the time, including the leftovers from a whole Barrel of Sake, in fact we still have ...

A lot of 08 Burgs won't be delivered yet. They should be being shipped around now. Perhaps they are preparing their website for imminent arrival.

Re: TN: a few more tasting sessions...

I think that although quite round and silky, not as structured as say 05, top 06 red burgs from good producers are looking very very good.

I think I may have to look into some 06 and 08 Drouhin-Laroze, and some lesser Fourriers.

Re: TN: impromptu tasting in Tokyo.

Well, I had to pay for the samples... Although I'm sure I could have wangled it free. There was a fair on the top floor of a department store, by the time that I'd paid up, we discovered that we knew one of the importers employees. Also tasted a lot of very average but cheap wines, unfortunately the...

Re: Harvest 2010....

Seems like it...plenty of good vintages. Now disastrous! Could this be better than the 80s. Although I will remain ever skeptical of 2010s despite being my wedding vintage (and probably more so because of it wanting to buy lots and wanting value thus) until I actually get to try a majority from vari...

At the main branch of Enoteca at Hiro-o Tokyo. 1999 Chateau Figeac: St. Emilion: meat, vibrant, stewed plum, earth, tobacco, hints of leaf, sous bois, earth, cassis, cedar, upright, with good structure... Jim, was there noticeable use of oak in this?

I am beginning to feel that there is so much fruit in 07 that perhaps the heavily oaken wines will perform better because they have have toned down in barrel... As oppose to having turned blistering like the bottles from 07 that I have tried recently.

TN: 2006 Cornas Granit 60, Vincent Paris

Big, rich, plum, deep and powerful, perhaps a touch closed and the wood needs to integrate, but it certainly looks like a peppery wine that will turn into something wonderful. Mineral and restrained, elegant. Classic white and black pepper, a bit of puppy fat to begin within but with air becoming le...

I like Cantina del Pino:.. The 02 Ovello is a stunner one of few and far between because of the hail in that vintage. And the 05 is very good as well. Lovely stuff.

If you can't give up... pay someone else to store it... or build an underground layer in the garden...

Don't have a garden, so I pay someone else to store my wine, or leave it at friends houses.

Claudius, this is all a bit sensationalist... As a UK tea Master, I can tell you that there are plenty of teas that sell for far more than that all over the world and if you rebase the value of money, have done for a long time. One of these teas is wholly produced and grown in the UK from the Tregot...
