Château Lynch-Moussas Pauillac 5eme GCC 2007 : Lynch-Moussas always has been a château that seemed to perform below par, like Pédesclaux and Croizet-Bages in the same appellation. But this is just a very good, well-composed wine. The first 2007 I had without the balsamico-notes I don't really need ...

Château Léoville Las Cases St. Julien 2eme GCC 1994 : Bought in 2004 for 40 €, prices long gone. This one really needed its air. The wine opened up during the evening. Lovely nose with thyme, cherry, tomato leaf, cedar, ink, cinnamon and mint. On the palate full of crisp fruit. 'Cool wine' for sure...

Château Carbonnieux rouge Graves GCC 2000 : Fine wine, but not typical for a Pessac at this point. Luxurious appearance with soft oak, forest fruit, cherry, thyme, licorice and in wonderful shape and balance. Solid finish. A very fine wine, that developed more Pessac Léognan- like impressions (leaf...

Virginie de Valandraud St. Emilion GC 2009 : And so the vintage wins over heritage. This 2nd wine of Valandraud, born in the glorious 2009, blew away the two expensive wines (Figeac 1988 and Cheval Blanc 1994) it shared its flight with. 3-4 tenners paid and we agreed... Vincent Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru 'Vaillons' 2004 : Shy appearance at first, but opened nicely. Yellow fruit, minerals, pineapple, dry and ripe. This wine resembles riesling in a way, as it is clear that minerals and stones are more obvious than 'just fruit'. It's also fresh, open, very elegant and...

So many critics now.. Neal Martin won't save Bordeaux I guess. The world likes sweet these days. Maybe rediculous pricing will come to a stop, though. And maybe Neal wil provide us with the little 'sleepers of the vintage' that will be classic-in-a-good-way-Bordeaux. All is not lost.

Classified Growths are just a small percentage of what Bordeaux is. The Cru Bourgeois, Cru Artisans and Grand Cru's from the right bank, the better wines from the Côtes, etc., it's all so much better than most Classified Growths were two decades ago. Bordeaux is changing like always, with or without...

Siran never has been a high flyer in my book. Fine, decent wines, but not très Margaux at all. Labels sometimes look better than what's in the bottle.

White Bdx.... Hmm... The ones that truely were great were exensive. Olivier and Carbonnieux are nice weekend sippers for 20+ Eur, but the great ones are too expensive. And they are 'just' white wines in the eyes of many consumers and enthusiasts.
