Re: Nice weekend wines, including 2016 Grave à Pomerol

Nice. I saw a blurb in a recent WS tasting note for some recent vintage of La Grave a Pomerol, that only *50* cases were brought over for the US market. I rarely ever see current releases, and remember with fondness the era a generation ago when it could be found on the shelf in Manhattan retailers...

Re: GPL is [no longer] my largest BDX holding!

Have you long been a Haut Bailly fan, DG? It seemed like an under the radar chateau until kinda recently, despite making consistently great wines since the 60’s or longer. The 79 is one of those largely unheralded gems. Bruce Bassin turned me on to Haut Bailly shortly before he died in 1998. I boug...

For those relying on me for this summer abstinence thing, rely no longer. I am doomed. Doomed not just with bottles, but bloody magnums. Two my shock, shock I tell you, I just won at auction 2 pristine bottles of the 1998 La Conseillante for $159.50 each including the buyer’s premium. I figured it’d easily go for >$200 each.

1978 Trotanoy...pristine cond.😊 In my next international trips, i will look for more 1978. I was struck by that previous post from AKR on Haut Brion, how they didn't start making a profit until 1996, and even then only because of RMP. It's hard to make a profit out there with tight credit and a high cost of living. I'm seeing too many folks, Mr. Flaneur included, predicting wild things i...
