Re: What are your top 10 wines of 2023?
Very easily, my top 10 is coming from 2 events, London convention and my pre-wedding day diner. It is always tough to make a selection... 1983 Cheval Blanc 1975 Petrus (double magnum) 1937 Pichon Comtesse de Lalande 1983 Chambertin Joseph Drouhin 2002 Lafite Rothschild 2008 Lafite Rothschild 1996 Mo...

What a buy! Lafite from my favorite vintage... but ready when?
My last purchase of red Bordeaux are 3 bottles of the 2016 Lafon Rochet.

Nice report Joel, and a night with Stu and K is always a great time. It's been too long since last time i saw them in 2019... maybe 2024 would be a good year to go back to the sunshine State? Never had any of these wines, except the 1982 Mouton Rothschild, but all great as you described for sure. Ha...

Re: 2023 BORDEAUX WINE ENTHUSIASTS WILLIAM "STEFAN" JOHNSON WINE OF THE YEAR: 2019 CHATEAU MONTROSE
Very good choice. Montrose is surely a wine that many BWEers love, and that has not turned to the dark side, staying a classic strong Saint Estèphe. The 2019 is already recognized as a great red wine from Bordeaux, one of the top in that vintage. Personally, if I would have had to make the call, thi...

December 23 Dinner with a couple of friends 2018 Riesling Trimbach: really very good in this vintage. Nose of lemongrass, flowers/white peaches and petroleum. December 22 pre-White Christmas 2022 Kalogeri Domaine Papagiannakos: good white wine for an aperitif, with light fruitiness of dry lemon and pineapple. In the mouth, very dry, light minerality, simplicity. Correct. Score: 82-83. 2022 Roero Arneis Vietti: we just moved up several levels! Very beautif...

Philippe Gonet Rosé Champagne: an “affordable” Champagne, well made, but lacks a little depth for the terroir where it comes from. Fine nose of light red berries, a little flower. While I liked the 2019 we had in London, and the Montrose surely was great, but I remember the group preferring Giscours and d’Issan that night. All good comments. As pointed out by dstgolf, price difference between the Fortuna Giobi and Sassicaia is 100 $. The group prefered the Sass, but for drinking right now, i prefeted the Giobi. But i have to admit, i'm not a "label" drinker, or the type of person that give high scores to win...

Thanks for the notes David. I guess these two wines aren't for me. Never had them, don't own any. Very concentrated Bordeaux is kind of a dangerous bet. Bordeaux is recognized for "claret" balanced and complex wines. Gloopier or hyper-modern in comments about wines are a bit turn off to me.

If it is a significative wine for BWE, why not go with the 1975 Petrus? I guess that wine, generously offered by Comte Flaneur earlier this year, in 3 liters format, has surely marked forever the minds of BWEers. Welcome back JEP.
I look, and your last post seems in 2011. Don't hesitate to post impression on any wines on BWE, like you did in the past. Even quick/short impression.
Now in Maine Central Coast, maybe is a good year for me to go bak to Maine in 2024.

I agree jckba. I just realized that when i used the word "traditionnal", it is probably not the right word, as when describing "traditionnal" Bordeaux, meaning classic, slightly austere, can age well. This is what i think about Ridge wines. For Turley, i agree with you, better in...

So the 2005 Léoville Barton not ready? I can stand that as I always thought 2005 was a great vintage, but best wines would need minimum 30 years… as the regular regional Bordeaux can probably make 10-12 years easily.
